I read the first three words of the Harvard acceptance letter ("I am delighted") and I immediately said to myself "NO ****ING WAY!" Unfortunately, none of my 5 family members were home at the time, and none of them but one of my sisters answered their cell phones. It's a pretty long and gratifying letter, but it feels better getting the actual paper in the mail.

Imagine being home alone when finding out you got into a school that you never dreamed of getting into.

i was comparing my friend's harvard acceptance letter with my stanford one, and already in the letters you could see the differences between the two schools

for example, harvard's addressed my friend as "Mr." and stanford's addressed me by my first name

also, harvard's says "you have until may 1 to respond to our offer," whereas stanford's says "We hope you will decide to accept our offer and enroll at stanford, but please know that you have until may 1 to confirm your choice"

lastly, stanford's ended with "sincerely" and harvard's ended with "yours sincerely" (not a big deal, but it just shows that harvard likes to be wordy about things :)

all in all, i like stanford's better. it felt more personal

^^ wow to both you last two guys. i've got goosebumps for you. seriously. sorry that is so lame but really, congrats. thats pretty darn cool (harvard and stanford!). sorry, i'm such a dork but that IS pretty cool. :)

Harvard's says "We very much hope that you will decide to attend Harvard" a few lines after it says "You have until May 1 to respond to our offer."

I thought Harvard's was pretty in depth, and it says "Our faculty and students have arranged a special welcome for you and we think the experience will be interesting and useful in making your final college choice. Of course, we would also be happy to have you visit at some other time"

It seems pretty warm to me, and I find it hard to believe that the word "yours" makes Harvard's letter seem wordy.

And thanks illnevergetin...it was pretty crazy finding out. And despite your username, I'm sure you'll get in where you're applying, and you'll find out what it's like as well.

haha yeah my friend made this name for me because shes oh so nice, but i'm going to uva next year so i guess it doesn't really apply anymore. not the same thing as a harvard acceptance but i was pretty psyched :) but thank you!

Kenyon sent me a nice acceptance letter. It had a thumbs up on the envelope (it somehow didn't look cheesey) and included a personalized acceptance letter as well as a Kenyon sticker.

Lewis & Clark had the best acceptance package! Some cool pamphlets, a personalized acceptance letter, and an internet site for accepted students. It made me sad that I had to turn their offer down =(

brown's acceptance was nothing special. a nice letter online, but from what i understand it is the same letter they used last year except for the year of graduation (2010).

finding out online made receiving the letter in the mail rather uneventful. basically i did a skim, framed the letter, then hung it on the wall. however i did receive a nice window sticker that is now on the back window of my car.

The Emerson package was cute. Nothing major, but a folder with all good info, like housing request and how to accept at emerson and blah blah. There's this really cute paragraph thats like,
You're in! What to do next?
A. Celebrate (it suggests sending out a mass email and implies that you are curious, enthusiastic, interesting, talented, accomplished, and have potential)
B. Read
C. Decide"

I like it. I stare at it pretty much everyday, because I know now I'm going to college :D

Man they are much more interesting than what we get. .. we just look online and see Accepted or Declined (i cant remember if they say rejected or not ... but i think they try to be nicer by saying declined)

It didnt stop me dancing around though heh. I happend to be in a tiny log cabin on a island off sweden and found out at 1am local time so that was a nice random memory.

Had I applied to Harvard, I'd be waiting right now for the letter to come back. The big manila envelope that makes my heart soar, tearing it open, waiting, and looking for those important words, and unfolding the paper and reading...

an excerpt from UNC chapel hill's rejection letter...

"while we do all that we can to treat each candidate fairly-- every application is read at least twice, and most are read three or more times-- in the end we must disappoint many students who believe would be successful on our campus."

... i highly doubt that they read the applications "at least twice", let alone "three or more times". these schools know what they want.

Now I wish I had applied to Bennington...I love the pride Vermont has in their maple syrup. All the restaurants here use maple-flavored syrup. Yuck. I'm definitly into the whole support group idea. It's going to be hard to wait 4 months...

Notre Dame's acceptance letter was nice, some good information, pretty pictures, and their signature "Welcome Home," but nothing too special. What was neat was the handsigned Christmas card they sent out in the mail.

Hehe, I also am in need of CAA...it's an addicting process.

"Kenyon sent me a nice acceptance letter. It had a thumbs up on the envelope (it somehow didn't look cheesey) and included a personalized acceptance letter as well as a Kenyon sticker."

How did you know it was a thumbs up when you first saw it? ;)

I could imagine, holding it upsidedown and seeing a huge thumbs down. It would make your heart sink, but then you'd turn it around, and it would be magical. Nice idea.
