Best/Worst CSU's

It seems like the race for UC's gets more and more competitive by the minute. I know because I am in it :/

But I'll admit even though I have high hopes for attending a UC, I screwed up a lot in high school and I'm beginning to consider some CSU's.

But since CSU's seem to be overshadowed by the competition for the UC schools, I'm just curious as a California resident;

What do you feel are some of the best/worst CSU's and why?

Any feedback and opinions are appriciated.

Muchas Gracias :)

Here is an old but popular one

What major are you looking into?

Cal Poly SLO and Cal Poly Pomona are at the top. San Diego State and Long Beach are decent as well.

The worst are CSU Dominguez Hills and CSU LA.

The rest are equally mediocre.

Avoid CSULA, CSU Domiguez Hills, CSU East Bay, and CSU Northridge.

If my 2.7 GPA engineering friend can get into that program at CSU Northridge, it is not worth the time or money he is dropping to have poor job prospects.

All the others I don’t think anyone cares about besides the Cal Poly schools, Long Beach, and San Diego State (nationally ranked).

Most of the prestige comes from the science/engineering programs.

SJSU has reputable science and engineering programs, but beyond that, it’s kind of average. The nice thing about SJSU is its proximity to Silicon Valley employers. Good networking opportunities.

Depends upon major. CSU Fullerton is excellent in some programs.

Entrance selectivity at CSUs depends on how popular the major is relative to its capacity. For example, here are SJSU’s thresholds for the fall 2012 freshmen class (note that 2900 is the baseline CSU eligibility minimum for in-state applicants):
[SJSU Admission](http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1045.html)

Note that chemical and materials engineering applicants got in with just baseline CSU eligibility, but mechanical and civil engineering applicants faced a much higher hurdle, as did applicants for art - animation, math, and occupational therapy.

However, it may be difficult for a chemical or material engineering major just at baseline CSU eligibility to successfully graduate in that major. But SJSU graduates in those majors seem to do ok: http://careercenter.sjsu.edu/Downloads/Salary_Info/SJSU_CareerCenter_Salary_Survey.pdf
