<p>I guess Atticus is supposed to be the stereotypical good father, and the trial is a stereotype of Southern racism, but there’s really no surprise in the story, which makes it bland despite the good lessons it contains. It’s much better for middle school kids I think than high schoolers who already understand that sort of thing and the history of it.</p>

Worst: In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex. It was a summer reading book this year. Terrible.
Best: Death Be Not Proud. Another summer reading book.</p>
