I don’t think the computer science department is very popular. Only knew one CS/music major and he had a lot of trouble getting a job. Better CS departments tend to be at schools with engineering programs.

yeah, agree. Go to Georgia Tech for CS. It kicks a. Look into it. If not prestigious enough for you (actually almost all of their engineering related programs are top 10. More people should know about them), look into Berkeley, Stanford, dare I say MIT, Caltech CS programs. Maybe Purdue or some other top publics known for good engineering programs. Definitely don’t come here for that. The curriculum is behind the times (they don’t even offer a standard course in MATLAB, which is really useful for engineers and computer scientists, their failure in this area is one reason physical biology is kicking my a)

amadani, please tell more about the French department. Which ones did Emory buy from Yale?

Also, how is Latin/Classics?

Gr, lame that the CS department sucks so bad. I really liked Emory for other reasons but it looks like maybe it isn’t a great place for me after all.

Yeah, sorry. Hate to spoil your outlook, but it would be better to look into another school if you are serious about that.

doryphorus:
Shoshana Felman, Claire Nouvet, [Emory University | Department of French & Italian | People | Nouvet](<a href=“Error 404 | Emory University | Atlanta GA”>Error 404 | Emory University | Atlanta GA)
Cathy Caruth, [Emory | Comp Lit | Faculty](http://comparativelit.emory.edu/faculty.htm)

I can’t say much about the French department from my own experience as I only had interactions with them through CompLit but my friends have been blown away with the department. I also know many of the graduate students in French and Complit and they are pretty great.

The department is inclined toward psychoanalysis and they’re doing some impressive work. Geoffrey Bennington in particular has done work on and with Derrida (before he died a few years ago) and continues to be one of the dominate voices in French critical theory (he also teaches at the European Graduate school in Switzerland in the summer). Shoshana Felman and Cathy Caruth are both world famous for their work on Holocaust and Trauma studies respectively. They’ve really turned Emory into one of the best (if not the best) places to study french philosophy and cultural theory in the country.

What do you think of environmental studies?

[Top 10 environmental studies programs | MNN - Mother Nature Network](http://www.mnn.com/eco-biz/money-green-jobs/blogs/top-10-environmental-studies-programs)

Here you go again using rankings (or better yet anything that implies Emory isn’t good). The person wants to know about “our” environmental studies dept because they obviously have some interest in Emory. Now all they know is that it doesn’t make this publication’s top 10 (due to it not making a top 10 list, I guess it’s no good at all for you, huh). Thanks, that really helped the person learn a lot more about Emory. How about rendering an opinion based on a class, if you’ve taken any in the dept. That would be more useful. I know you’re trying to be “objective”, but if they want current students’ (or anyone here w/experience) opinion on the dept., a publication that doesn’t even mention Emory doesn’t help.

Does anybody know if Emory’s international relations program is good???

I second randompiglet’s request for information on the International Relations program at Emory! If anyone has any information, I’d really appreciate it!

what kind of classes do you take to get the bachelors in nursing?
How is that program/major in emory?

Okay so if any current student at Emory or someone who knows really well about Emory just tell us aching prospective students about the following departments at Emory? :)

1) International Relations/Studies + PoliSci Department
2) Film/Media Studies Department
3) Latin/Classics Department

Some people have asked, so if anyone could just comment on any of those departments and whether or not they are truly good :)

Latin/Classics- I took a classics class and it was my amazing. She pointed a lot of stuff I had never realized in our discussions and was very involved in my learning.
Not really sure what exactly you want to know. It’s not an easy class but the faculty is very competent.
