<p>I was just wondering if someone could list the Best AND Worst Departments at Emory, and the Okay-ish ones.. Idk what Emory is exactly "known" for, like the particular department that everyone talks about at Emory, so what are the Best AND Worst Departments? Even the Okay ones I want to know!</p>

<p>There are a lot of good departments: Chem, Bio, English, Women’s Studies, Comp Lit, the ILA, Journalism, Psychology, NBB, etc. etc. Could you be a little more specific? Humanities? Social Sciences? Any particular interests?</p>
<p>The standout ones that come to mind: Women’s/Gender and Sexuality Studies (the best in the country), Religion, Comp. Lit., ILA, Psychology, NBB, and Chemistry.</p>
<p>So, what would one say about the Physics department?</p>
<p>Physics dept. isn’t as good and is honestly kind of desperate for majors. They seem to be making improvements however. I suppose most majors/prospective like it once they get past the 151/152 point. I haven’t heard many complaints in the higher level courses. It’s Okayish. If it had more majors, it’d probably have more clout. Since pre-med is so strong amongst students here, most will be bio, psyche, or NBB majors. Most of these avoid the chem. and physics dept. as much as possible. Chem. stays strong despite this primarily b/c of the number faculty members who are heavy weights in their respective fields of research. Not to mention, intro. level and orgo. are taught quite well overall, so the dept. gains some popularity from these good first impressions (unfortunately, most beyond these is somewhat of a disappointment in terms of teaching quality, the opposite of the physics dept.)</p>
<p>How’s Goizueta at Emory? I mean, apart from the ranks and things, what are some notable qualitative things about it?</p>
<p>Okay well I can safely assume then that:</p>
<p>NBB, Psychology, Chemistry, Biology, Women’s Studies/Sexuality courses are some on Emory’ strong suits.</p>
<p>And Emory’s weak links right now is like Physics? But anything else?</p>
<p>But what about the absolutely pathetic/bad departments? That like which ones may need more fine-tuning or establishment?</p>
<p>Oh and to be more specific, how are the Humanities/Languages and Arts departments? Good/Bad/Okay. :)</p>
<p>And can someone categorize the Arts at Emory in particular, best/okay/bad? Dance, Theater, Film, Music and Creative Writing.</p>

<p>Most of the humanities/languages and arts depts. are solid. I wouldn’t worry about those too much. I have yet to be disappointed by these. Very strong is= History, Political Science, Religion, philosophy.</p>
<p>I can say that creative writing and music are solid b/c I have many friends in it right now (plus I’ve seen the musical performances). I think theater is solid too, but people here only want to compare it NU (as if that’s fair to any school’s theater dept.). Don’t know much about dance and film.</p>
<p>The English department cannot be overrated. Rambuss, Goldberg, Schuchard, Elliot, Rushdie, Trethaway, and others really are at the top of their fields.</p>
<p>Goizueta Qualitative:</p>
<p>There is a strong push for group work, which is very valuable/applicable for professional life</p>
<p>The business student body is very social and the school provides many opportunities for networking/fun (e.g Kegs every Thursday)</p>
<p>No classes on Friday or before 10am </p>
<p>The recruiting is strong, especially for finance/accounting in NY and consulting/f500/marketing in the SE. Off the top of my head, seniors have already secured jobs at Goldman (2-3), Lazard (5), Houlihan Lokey (3+), Bain (2), Deloitte (5+), PWC, to name a few. </p>
<p>I have heard from friends at other B-schools that there is not much diversity in their course offerings. In my opinion, we have a lot of great elective choices that cater to interests across the board. </p>

<p>phaeth is right on the money, but I wanted to add one thing about teacher quality:</p>
<p>The teachers at Goizueta are nothing short of excellent. Many of them are preeminent in their field, teaching one semester and researching or consulting the other. But at the same time, the teachers are great at teaching too. Emory really values teacher quality when they hire, and it shows. Classes are enjoyable, teachers care, and in all of my b-school classes, my teacher has gotten to know ALL of their students by name in the first few weeks.</p>
<p>I’m in the business school. The business school has a nice building and good professors. The career center is pretty bad and you’re at a disadvantage to schools near New York when applying for banking jobs so you’ll have to put a lot of work into networking. The business school is pretty good for accounting though. Hears what I hear about other departments. </p>
<p>Good Departments: NBB, Biology, Chemistry, Political Science</p>
<p>Bad: Economics, Physics, math isn’t great</p>
<p>Does anyone have any comments about the French department? What are good courses/professors?</p>
<p>The French department is top notch. Emory bought a lot of the Comp Lit/French department at Yale a few years ago and they’re doing some very cool work. Goeffrey Bennington and Claire Nouvet are both excellent. Shoshana Felman (though she teaches mostly in comp. lit.) is also notable, as is Dalia Judovitz.</p>
<p>What’s even better is that a lot of them are actually French lol. My prof. is either a grad. or post-doc from France. She can seem annoying at times, but I do realize that her methods are very affective. Plus it’s easier for her to tell us which words and phrases are hardly ever used in France. She also includes us on both political and pop culture in France. Makes the class interesting.</p>
<p>how about the film and media studies department?</p>
<p>^I’d actually like to know more about those departments as well.</p>
