better hold on tight to ur USNEWS!!!

conjuring sounds like voodoo shiznatch. Did u guys hear about the history channels thing on voodooism?

lol, i heard if you averaged duke's rank over the past 10 years in the US, its higher than all but the top 3 ivy leagues

of course, i couldn't prove that, since i don't know/care about the past 10 years of US news rankings

Also, why does the world prestige thing matter at all?

If anything the world prestiges factor really only matters for individuals who considering working overseas. Duke's reputation is known in several nations--not to the extent of HYP---however it is, without a doubt, a prestiguous school, whose reputation nationally and internationally will surge over the years; I just love that Duke is a progressive school. Plus, we have Brodhead!!! He kicks ass!!

I love what Amused said.

I mean, OMG I WONT BE ABLE TO EARN A SPOT AS A MULE FARMER IN BANGLADESH! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Wharton isn't the only good thing at Penn. *****. Let us fight over silly issues like this.

Funny story about Mongolia. During Penn preview days a guy was talking about how he got Asian job offers. A Hong Kong company offered him a sweet penthouse, and a Mongolian company offered him...a horse.

The tallest building in Mongolia is 14 stories, in other news.

princeton does not share the same international prestige as say harvard, yale, stanford or MIT...i would say duke and princeton share relatively the same prestige internationally

"A Hong Kong company offered him a sweet penthouse, and a Mongolian company offered him...a horse."

Wow man that is just sad alright. I feel sorry for the Mongolians...i mean they used to be all chill with Atilla but now theyre just panzies

Atilla rocked hard...

Sure, maybe Duke and Princeton have international prestige, maybe they don't, etc. but why does it really matter?

Unless you live somewhere besides this country

and remember, there are thousands/millions of people who didn't go to ANY of those schools and THEY'VE still been successful.

Atilla wasn't in Mongolia.... it was Genghis Khan

And they say Penn kids are dumb :-D

where was Atilla then?????

Atilla was of mongol descent.. but his birth place was in what is today modern hungary.. (if i remember correctly)

he ate two of his sons

Gengis Khan had 20,000 wives

great men of history these fellows

why do they call him a mongol?

The world rankings that were refered to earlier are rubbish. The methodology for them is incredibly stupid as it looks at number of Rhode scholars and number of articles published in scientific journals, things like that. Plus, it ranks the university as a whole, including graduate schools.

Ummm

that ranking is made up by college students as a project for some statistics class. i would hardly call it a rigorous study.

"The methodology for them is stupid as it looks at the number of Rhode [sic] scholars and number of articles published in scientific journals..."

Keep in mind that the methodology for other popular rankings (e.g. US News) is equally arbitrary (and often even more ridiculous): student-faculty ratio, number of classes < x size, retention rate, alumni donor rate, etc...

This particular ranking is somewhat skewed toward science and engineering. With that caveat, in many cases it's much closer to reality (in terms of worldwide perceptions) than the US News list.

I'll admit, I have had Duke prestige worries. It seems that the people in Los Angeles know very little about Duke--plenty wonder why I didn't go to Berkeley. Uh...I'm just gonna stop there 'cause I have nothing more to say.

yeah Berkeley is way too liberal and its not even close to Duke haha.

snack, the methodology used by the Shanghai University for its world rankings are far worse than those used by US News for its rankings.

The world rankings only reflect the prowess of the university's faculty and its ability to carry out research in a variety of fields whilst not paying any attention to the quality of education or selectivity, which US News attempts to address, albeit somewhat unsuccessfuly.
