better NOT to have a perfect SAT score?

i don't know, but...do all colleges--even the most selective--HAVE to admit people who don't have perfect SAT scores? so, if most people applying have 2400s, and they have to admit some with lower, could it possibly be easier or just as easy to get in with a lower score?

Colleges definitely do NOT have to admit you even if you score perfectly on the SAT. That said, a 2400 can only help you, although lower scores (not too low) will get you in as well, as long as all the other parts of your application are strong.

Your premise is false. 2400’s are extremely rare. There are only a few hundred per year throughout the country.

Lockn is right: even if you count all scores above 2350 or so, which colleges view as virtually identical to a perfect score, you won’t have enough kids to fill a single school. I can’t think of any situation where a lower SAT score would be better.

ah ok. i thought there were more people who got 2400s. my bad!
