I'm mixed (half us, half thai), so I was wondering, admissions-wise, which is better to list? Or is neither better? What should I do?

I grappled with the same issue!!
I decided to do both in the end (Half Indian + half Middle East). I think in a way it looks kind of unique, so it may end up helping (though this is just blind hope I think haha).

some trying to play the admissions game and be yourself. put down whatever you associate more with, not what you think is going to help you get into college

White!!!

Thanks everyone.

RaulMejia: Is there a reason why you suggest white?

Well, I heard it was harder for Asians to gain admission, since the standards are raised a bit… But, I may be wrong.

you are not wrong. go white. why would you not take advantage of what you have?

and lets not get into the whole AA thing again, but, I mean, asians aren’t exactly colleges’ favorites are they.

Haha, yea. I understand the AA thing.

Thanks guys!

well, I’d look at it from the standpoint of which culture you associate yourself with. Just a guess, but I’m going under the assumption that you have relatively little connection to your Thai ancestry.
Put white.

Put both. Don’t deny one of your parents your identity. Also, a growing number of people are of mixed race so it won’t hurt. They will see that one of your parents is Thai in parent information anyways.

Put both. Half-white, half-Thai is far more interesting than full white or full Thai. Besides, if your application is strong, I don’t think it will matter much either way.

unlocked - asians are an ORM which means they take a higher percentage of asians then they have in the general population. How can you say that colleges don’t want them?

Colleges want a balance. They get more standout Asian applicants than they can accept. The same cannot be said for URMs.

Put down Asian, so if your not accepted you can play the victim of ORM. If you put down white not all is lost you can blame URM, it just not as cool but still popular. Both are good for your self-esteem if you are not accepted. LOL…

^Exactly. When you post on the Decision thread you can say in big, bold letters:

ASIAN! ■■■!!!

@wrightm… haha that really was a guess for you. Thai is my first language, Thailand is where I grew up.

@bioslick and ccuser18: lol. that is great advice.

Thanks you guys again.
