Better to double major or minor?

I plan on majoring in film production, and I’d like to either double major or minor in business management. My top schools also happen to be pretty good business wise. I realize that double majoring would mean more work (which I don’t mind), but what I’m really curious about are the pros of double majoring versus minoring? Would I be gaining any benefits by choosing to double major instead of minoring in business? And is it weird that my minor/double major is unrelated to my major? I’ve always been interested in business and considered majoring in it but film is my true passion.

Honestly, business is one of those majors where you can minor instead of major, IMHO. Or even not minoring or majoring but taking the relevant courses. Most skills in the business field are acquired through experience, not coursework. Once you go beyond the basics, it’s questionable whether taking more courses will realistically help you (whether in landing a job or succeeding in a role). It might be a good idea to minor so that you can take more classes in the field that you’re more interested in.

Not at all; in fact, I actually think it’s a good idea to diversify your expertise.

Employers are going to care about what you majored in. If you would like to go into business in the future, double major. If it’s something that you just love or want to just learn more about, minor or take a couple classes.
