Better to Retake US or Let it Be?

I am debating whether or not I should retake US history this upcoming fall. I got a 740 initially without studying much, but I was wondering if it would be better if I take it again and send both scores to colleges (the ones who don't accept score choice meaning most ivys) or just send the 740. I know i can do better if I retake it, most likely 780+.

Let me know what you all think.

I got the exact same score, but I’m not retaking (at least for this subject anyway). If you think you can do better, and are willing to spend the summer reviewing for it, I say go for it if it won’t get in the way of school and college applications (assuming you’re a rising senior). But there’s always the fact that taking it in October will present material that may be hard to remember if you learned it in class the previous year.
It also depends on what you’re majoring in; if you’re a math and science person and the 740 in US History is matched with a higher score from a more relevant subject, you’re fine even for Ivies.

yeah, i will be a junior next year and I know i can do better, but I just dont know if it is worth it. I am looking to go into the business and finance realm and i am pretty confident i can get a 780+ in math 2. with that, I am still not sure whether or not to give us another shot. would ivys like it better if i stick with the 740 and send in other 780+ scores or retake the 740 and send those?

Just a note that the Math II curve is extremely lenient, and that [a 780 in Math II is about the same as a 740 in US History](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools). (This data is slightly outdated, however.) You’ll probably end up with an 800 in Math II if math is a stronger subject than US History, but colleges will know about Math II’s curve anyway.

Some of the Ivies accept score choice (as in, you can hide that 740 if you ever needed to), though you may have already chosen to submit scores using the free score reports. Also, since all of the Ivies only require 2 subject tests, taking extra tests will not provide an advantage except if you’re confident you will score better on those tests than you’ll ever score with US History. Obviously you probably don’t know how you’ll do on future subject tests yet, so that’s all I can tell you with confidence (plus my previous post); as for your actual choice as to retake US History or not, I have no conclusion.
