BFA 2019 WAITLIST AND ACCEPTED

Hello! I am on the waitlist for UMN Guthrie bfa acting and I still haven’t heard anything from Cal Arts bfa acting. I’m patient but I’d also like to know if anyone knows anything about either of those schools. When does cal arts send admission decisions? How many people does umn accept and how many are on the waitlist? Does umn have a waitlist order? Umn is my top choice.

Are you considering UMN BA if the waitlist doesn’t come through or are you only looking at BFAs?

@minnesnowtagal Per email from CalArts: “The notification period for the admission decision will be approximately March 1 through early April for students that applied by the regular deadline. There may be cases, however, where the decision will come earlier or take longer. We send emails to all applicants at different times, depending on each program’s review schedule and when required materials for the student’s file are received. Accepted students receive a follow up letter. There is no significance attached to receiving your notification earlier or later than other students that have applied.”

I’d consider it but personally I feel a more conservatory style, like the bfa program, would better fit me

U of Minn/Guthrie accepts 20 students a year into its freshman class. Don’t know about their waitlist situation.

My D was on the waitlist for Guthrie/Theatre BFA Acting She just received an email from Deb Pearson addressed to “undisclosed recipients” saying “thanks for your patience,” and that she was “released from the waitlist,” and “good luck.” So, basically some applicants on the Guthrie waitlist just found out they are No’s today.

UMinn/Guthrie parent here. My D is in the sophomore company. @FlowerPower2023, I’m sorry to hear your news. I hope the best for your D with other options. (Maybe this was not her first choice. In a way, wouldn’t that be nice? Best of luck.)

As @nelamom19 said, they accept 20 and the WL is approximately the same amount. I don’t know where they are at with acceptances for the incoming class, but @FlowerPower2023 's experience would tell me they are full or nearly so. If they are, this is very early for them. But, like other acceptance deadlines, May 1 is the date and a lot of things can happen in the next week.

I’m sending you positive juju, @minnesnowtagal !!!

Thanks @ThenSheSaidIt! Guthrie was her first choice, but she has lots of great BFA Acting/Theatre options to choose from: Meadows/Southern Methodist University, Emerson, Webster, Evansville, Hartt, SCAD, and a couple others, and waitlisted at NYU. Still trying to make a decision!! Best of luck to everyone!
