I know there are so many rules to appropriate monologues for BFA Acting Auditions. I was wondering how important it really is for the monologue to be spoken to another character, as opposed to the audience? After monologue-searching all summer I’m getting into that time where I need to have my monologue chosen, and I found one where the character fits me, and is trying to solve a problem and comes to a conclusion of sorts - the only issue is that she is talking to the audience. In addition, does anyone have any tips for finding alternative female comedic monologues? I’ve read through most of the plays at my library, and looked through awards lists to find plays, but I just haven’t found a comedic contemporary monologue that fits me like a glove yet.
Thanks in advance!
I’m not an acting coach, just a mom that has listened to my D’s monologues for over 10 years. She does not talk to the audience. She added a beginning bit to one of her monologues she used for college auditions last year to ensure she had a connection with another character. Look at “Mary Kate Olsen is in Love” for a comedic monologue. D also looked at New Play Exchange and ordered plays that had characters that were appropriate for her. Best of luck to you!
Also, you might get more feedback if you post in theatre/drama major.
Got it, thank you!!
