BFA Acting Class of 2023: preparation, prescreens, auditions, questions and support

@gidamom i sent you a PM

@hamdog123 Regarding Ithaca, as I recall they release the rejections in waves, so if you don’t receive one, you are still in consideration. Last year, we were stuck with no acceptance or rejection for so long. Ultimately she was rejected. I learned that Ithaca does not have a formal wait list for Acting, only for MT.

This also happened in my Ds audition in Chicago for Fordham (third monologue)

@FourStars does Ithaca redirect MT to BFA Acting?

Michigan denials are in the portal but emails haven’t gone out yet.

Wow - a blast from the past! My first visit back to CC since last Spring. My S did the UMinn/Guthrie callback last year. Great weekend - at college, no parents. One thing my S told me - the program head at the time (Joe Price) wanted each of the kids to let him know personally if they REALLY wanted to be there in the fall. I thought that was very interesting. The call back weekend is an investment of time & resources for both parties (the school and the student/family). I thought it was great that the kids had a chance to make their intentions clear (assuming they knew). It could be different this year, of course – with new leadership. Still, UMinn is a very unique program. (I loved it. But my S found his place at DePaul. All good.) BEST of luck & karma to all the students (and moms) awaiting acceptances at this very intense moment in time! Hi to all of my Class of 2022 buddies! I sort of miss the buzz. :wink:

@ginaf1102 @artskids @HopeinMT Would you please PM me? I do have some questions ~ but I don’t have enough posts to send PMs. Thanks!

D just got the U Michigan denial. :frowning:

@Atreuh would you please send me a PM? I have a question but don’t have enough posts yet to send one. Thanks!

I just logged on today. My son auditioned last year and landed at UNCSA. I was just thinking about this year’s bunch of anxious parents. These weeks can be a nail biter!

@STHmom @FourStars @Atreuh Thank you for commenting and paying it forward! The waiting is SO HARD! I had no idea…

@SoCalPops Sorry to hear about the denial. I am cheering for your D and know she will find the perfect fit. Have been lurking here all year…and your sharing has been helpful for me as my D seems to be on a similar path.

Thanks @actinghopeful - we appreciate the kind words :slight_smile: Right now we seem to be getting the early Noes of the RD process. We are hopeful that March will add a couple of nice Yeses!

S was waitlisted at Michigan today. So hard to watch him take the news - it’s our first result, 11 programs still to go. I knew this was a long shot because his grades and SAT aren’t really competitive there - but still a tough one to absorb.

Waitlisted at Michigan is still pretty darned awesome @MomMimi! And it’s not his grades - they gate-keep on that early on, he wouldn’t have gotten an audition if they weren’t going to let him in. It’s just a super competitive program for admission and they get way more talented kids than they can admit. Sorry @SoCalPops’s D and everyone else hearing Nos today from UMich. “Nos” are the majority party when it comes to that program… so at least you’re in good company!!! Hoping for more good news soon.

@SoCalPops My D received a no also! It stings but the reality is the programs are small. My D audition at Unifieds for Michigan was short so my D not upset. I think the auditions that are longer and more involved will sting a bit more( if a no). I enjoy reading the forum because it helps to hear the ups and downs of this process and I wouldn’t of known about the Michigan portal decision This is my first weekend home in 5 weeks due to auditions.

@SoCalPops and @1423mom My D received a no from Michigan also. She’s not upset either because I actually made her apply to U-M to increase the number of schools she was applying to. At the time, she had only 10 schools on her list, and now, we’re at 15. Yes, U-M is very selective with only 20 students. Anyway, my D is looking forward to her Rutgers Callback Weekend next weekend! We recently found out that they only call back around 50 students, so we’re grateful!

@MomMimi A waitlist for a top program calls for a Congrats!

@MomMimi - a waitlist isn’t a no! If Michigan is at the top of your S’s list, have him let them know. Once people start accepting, and declining schools they are not interested in, spots open up and people come off waitlists.

Thanks @love2share @1423mom @CaMom13

I am wondering if acceptances for U Michigan have also gone out? Or was this just denial day?

I saw one mention of someone’s friend getting a weekend acceptance call from U Mich on the BFA MT thread? but that is all…

@SoCalPops I believe U Michigan makes phone calls for a yes. I also heard calls went out yesterday.

@love2share - Congrats! My D did not apply to Rutgers, but I have heard it is an excellent program. Great opportunity to visit and get a feel for the program, etc. My daughter really enjoyed her campus auditions. She has a mix of schools “13” and has 3 acceptances (2 non- audition, and 1 audition) and 2 rejections - large state schools. She passed most of her pre-screens (2 no’s from pre-screen) and made a callback cut at campus audition. At this point, she will be in college somewhere next fall :slight_smile:

@momMimi - Congrats on waitlist!
