Hello! My D is a sophomore at UNCSA, and I’m just popping back onto CC to hear the exciting final results of this new class. CC was so helpful to us back in my D’s application/audition year of 2017, and I’ve loved reading everyone’s final acceptance stories ever since. @hamdog123 - Two years ago UNCSA’s first acceptance calls went out during the school day on the Tuesday right after UNCSA’s final weekend of on campus auditions. If that’s when they do it this year, that would be TOMORROW (Tues Feb 19). All the best to everyone in the coming days/weeks!!
Does anyone have info on the Helmerich School of Drama/university of Oklahoma audition?? Website says 2 monologues…audition time total of 2 minutes…wondering if this is a hard two minutes and if they actually time them. My D’s monologues are 1 min cuts each but she takes about a min 30 for each…she’s been doing it this way for six months so torn between cutting them down and re-learning and being thrown Or risk Not following directions…thank you!!
Not a single one of my schools cared at all about monologue timing. CMU asked for a minute and a half, and one of mine (my third one—they asked for a third) was literally bordering on three minutes and it was fine. I don’t know about Oklahoma though.
they specifically ask for 2 min…for both monologues…up until this point my D’s 1.30 monologues have not mattered because 2 songs were also usually included for MT and she never exceeded the total time allowed…now its different because its only 2 mono’s…thank you
@thespis1 One of my D’s friends was redirected from waitlist BFA MT to BFA Acting at Ithaca last year. He got that redirect pretty late in the process, late March or early April if my memory is correct. He is happy at Emerson’s MT program now.
For all the people who got U Mich No’s, I am so sorry. That was my D’s first choice last year - felt it was a perfect fit - and she received a No. So much pain with these rejections. That said, twelve months later, I think she would say, “Michigan - what’s that?” She is completely engaged in the school she chose, (and that chose her), acting, singing, dancing, auditioning, doing tech and costumes, playing intramural basketball and soccer, and hanging out with new friends. There is no one single path.
Between NYC and Chicago Unifieds, I read all of the posts from the Class of 2022 BFA Acting Prescreens, Auditions and Acceptances in order to make a timeline of when my daughter should be looking out for rejections, acceptances and waitlist notifications. It took me hours to get through all of the posts! Class of 2022 was an amazingly communicative bunch and shared so much helpful information. So to save everyone else some time, I will share below the information I read for a few schools (the schools my daughter applied to). I’m sorry I didn’t make notes on all the schools, but at the time I was only focused on the schools my daughter applied to. I hope this helps those of you whose kids have also applied to these schools.
Boston University - Last year, notifications were uploaded to applicant portals on/around 3/15.
Carnegie Mellon - Last year, notifications of rejections and waitlists were posted to the Acceptd portal around 3/12 while acceptances were sent on/around 3/22.
DePaul - Last year, phone calls of acceptances were made on/around 3/15. Additionally, some rejections started being mailed out prior to 2/27. Some people also reported that decisions were uploaded to the applicant portal on/around 3/9.
Emerson - Last year, notifications were sent on/around 3/16.
Fordham - Last year, at least one person received an email acceptance around 3/2, although this did not seem to be typical. Most people reported notifications arriving on 3/16.
Ithaca - Last year, people reported that they started receiving rejections via snail mail around 2/20. In other news, it seems that Ithaca may disable your applicant portal if you are rejected, and this seems to happen even before the rejection letter arrives. Acceptances were uploaded to the applicant portal on/around 2/21.
Pace - In early March of last year, people reported getting phone calls of acceptances, followed by official letters of acceptance. It seems these calls continued until mid-March. Many people reported that rejections and waitlist notifications arrived via snail mail on/around 3/22. Up to 3/24, people reported that official acting acceptances arrived via snail mail (although I’m sure there were probably more that arrived later than that).
Rutgers - Last year it seemed that callback weekend notifications were out around 2/15, and it seemed that these notifications went out in two groupings. At the same time, rejections were posted to the school applicant portal. This year, my daughter received a rejection from the program via her applicant portal on 2/13.
Syracuse - Last year, acceptances were uploaded in batches to applicant portals beginning on 3/16 and continuing for a few consecutive Fridays.
University of Minnesota - Last year, callback weekend notifications came around 2/8, right after the close of LA Unifieds. It was exactly the same this year…my daughter got the callback weekend notification via the Acceptd portal on 2/11, the Monday after LA Unifieds closed. Additionally, rejections started being mailed out prior to 2/27.
I don’t know if this will hold true for this year, but it might provide a measure for comparison at a time when we are all climbing the walls waiting for answers. Best wishes to everyone!
^^^ love!!!
@loudclappingmom Wow! Thank you so much for the detailed information!
@collegeadmiss If he has checked his portal/accepted account and there is no news, go ahead and contact UMinn. Perhaps there is a waitlist of sorts that they use if not enough people RSVP that they are coming for the weekend. The invitation email asks that you RSVP by this Friday. Good luck!
@loudclappingmom Thank you!! The MT thread also has a timeline of school notifications, guessing it is similar to Acting.
Fordham- I read a post on one of the MT threads I think, from a current theatre student advising that the auditions had wrapped up earlier last week and last year notifications for the majority of the students started going out on March 2 every Friday till the end of the month on a rolling basis though there were a few earlier acceptances.
Thank you, @loudclappingmom
I’m sure that took a long time to track down…thank you for posting!
Has anyone had experience with Baldwin Wallace waitlist just for an audition? My son is waitlisted for 2/24 audition date. Wondering if he has a prayer of getting to audition and stressed about last minute travel in the midwest winter :-/
@loudclappingmom - that is so awesome of you to compile all that information and share it with everyone. Perhaps many of you have found it, but for those that haven’t, here is the Acceptance thread from our group, which has DATES of acceptance on it. In addition, if you guys are ready to set one up, you can cut and paste the instructions from the initial post. I remember it took me a while to get the hang of it, but it worked out very well.
We celebrate acceptances, but we also hold each other’s virtual hands through the heartaches and rejections. Try to remember you only need ONE!
@loudclappingmom - Good work! As for the other schools, if you look at the following post- you can see when kids were accepted last year, which for at least some schools is close to rejections:

For my S, he heard from Penn State (W/L) on 3/1, Syracuse on 3/16 at around 6pm eastern time, UCLA on 3/16 (late at night on east coast), USC on 3/24 (white box in the mail- and there is no longer an advance postcard sent only to those accepted), and NYU on 3/28. Good luck everyone!!!
@2artskidz Thanks for the advice. He will send UMinn an email today. I’m not sure what to make of the fact that he hasn’t heard anything either way.
@2artskidz Has your S checked his spam folder? He probably has…but just thought I would throw that out there! My D was confused not hearing from a school a while back and found some emails in there
Oops - meant to direct that to @collegeadmiss ^
@actinghopeful I’m not sure if he’s checked his spam folder or not. I will ask him to do that. He just sent the email to UMinn.
@collegeadmiss- If your S can manage it- he might try calling Minn. he should be sure to tell them the program is one if his top choices. That way if he is on a WL, they might just give him the slot. A kid will seem far more interested if he calls. Good luck!
@MomofJ5 . True. I will tell him to call after school if he hasn’t received a reply by then. Thanks!
