BFA Acting Class of 2023: preparation, prescreens, auditions, questions and support

About posting rejections: of course it’s 100% up to each person what they feel comfortable sharing! But I will say that last year, most of us did post our rejections as they came in along with the acceptances, and speaking for myself, it really helped. When we posted rejections, people emphathized with us and comforted us, which made us feel better. And when other people posted rejections, we were reassured that we weren’t the only ones going through that heartache and we weren’t alone. Just something to consider!

Any word on Pace BFA Acting or FTVC programs?

@dramamama3 Someone that was at Pace Acting & FTVC auditions last weekend said that at the Info Session, they said result letters will be going out this Saturday.

First time posting, but have been following along since October. This was a very new process for me and really had no guidance from anyone. Very different experience than 2 years ago and going through the college process with my D who ended up at Tufts. My S had to convince me that this was his dream and he was determined to get into an Acting program, preferably a BFA program somewhere. If I was going to help him, I had to teach myself everything, sometimes too late, but this board has taught me so much throughout the process. We had no acting coach, no big resume other than high school productions and a head shot that was his senior picture, but with a dream and a prayer, we ventured on this journey. He applied to 14 schools, 12 required prescreens. He passed all but one (CMU). He auditioned for 10 different schools. We never scheduled the Wagner audition. And so far rejection from LMU (not surprised because he uploaded his video on the final due date and I swear to god it was filmed on his ipad in my basement) and no call back from Julliard after the audition. Accepted so far to Marymount Manhattan, Fordham (Performance Track) and Ithaca BFA acting. Still waiting for decisions from the other schools. I thank all of you for all your informative posts and teaching me so much through this process even though you didn’t even realize you were helping others. Good luck everyone!!

Question- if you saw 2 posts of acceptances to a particular school 2 days ago- are we to assume a rejection is imminent? ? ?

I would also like to thank all of the contributors to this site. This is my first post and I need to say that you have all been so informative and supportive. Quite an anxious time. One thing I noticed was that during the Unifieds, my son said that his best audition was the walk in. He was so relaxed as he thought of it as some great directors just giving him a bit of their valuable time and not really considering him as he had not previously applied to their program. They were wonderful, laughed at his comedic monologue which gave him confidence with his dramatic one. This took place on the second day after an audition with a school that hardly looked at him and would not shake his hand. So it was so welcome. We would like to figure out a way to capture that relaxed feeling and hold on to it for future use. He just found out that the walk-in was actually successful from the school’s point of view as well and they kindly accepted him into their program. So any hints out there on bottling that relaxed feeling to take into an audition would be much appreciated!!

@Jazzycats - your D’s experience seems fairly typical. Unpredictable highs & lows are part of this process. And @actorparent1 – you are so right. It sure helps to have a tribe to get through the hard times and offer cheers for the good news!

I was looking at a 2018 post about Pace and saw something about googling the Pace White pages and if you find your child’s name in the their white pages and it shows a program such as BFA Acting that it means they have been accepted and if it says undecided it means that it is either a no or waitlist. I tried it out and saw Acting and not undecided. Is anyone familiar with this and if so has this been completely debunked?

I am a Pace mom. The White Pages will not give a clue about acceptances at this stage. Last year when there was some chatter on this topic…to counter the speculation, I posted that my D who was accepted to Acting was showing up as “undecided”. This process is maddening, but there “really are no tea leaves to read” - just crazy making. Hang in there and BAL!

Hi @actinghopeful Similar situation happened to my D. You go from being happy passing the prescreen to rejection letter. My D says she can’t get upset about situations she can’t control. Ugh – now not looking forward to the next few weeks!. We were warned it was unpredictable but it does sting when an audition you think went well wasn’t what they were looking for!

Anyone know when DePaul results will be out?

@RogueMom According to my notes on DePaul, results were in the portal on 3/9 last year.

@love2share Thanks!

@danielle6183 congrats on the acceptances! And welcome to both you and @BelleHankmom

@FamLawTX That’s an interesting post about looking at the Pace White Pages. My child auditioned for 3 BFA programs at Pace. We haven’t heard anything as of yet, but when I searched my child’s name on the white pages, one of the 3 programs came up associated with his name. Does anyone know if this actually means something?

@dramama3 - listings in white pages are unrelated to Pace acting acceptances. See #1208 on this thread.

I second these expressions of gratitude for the CC vanguard on this page. Like others, I fumbled about, thinking that the BFA process wouldn’t be so much different from my older D’s BA process. Sometime in late August, I decided to check back into CC to see what I might need to be thinking about…oh, not too much, just a TSUNAMI of things to figure out (“what’s a Unified?” “what’s a prescreen”). Our GC was clueless and I had a sinking feeling that December would roll around and my child and I would be so far behind the curve that it would be impossible to catch up. From the rest of you, I found a coach (MTCA) to guide us through, find monologues, and explain that applying to only 8 schools (as the GC insisted) would be a disaster. Had I not been haunting this site, my D might have been looking at a completely different college experience. There’s still much to consider, but we couldn’t have done it without you. Break a leg, everyone!

@dramama3 I saw that thread and was hoping that it had some significance. My S also applied to multiple programs at Pace (BFA Acting and FCTV program). I saw that certain students showed undecided that had been admitted but I didn’t see if anyone showed a major that was rejected so I thought it was worth a shot to throw that out there. At this stage we have to obsess over the significance of any info we can glean.

Has anyone heard about Carnegie Mellon BFA Acting? Some news is on the musical theater thread that kids are getting phone calls tonight and some have heard already today.

Came home to a big envelope from Montclair- turned out to be the same financial aid letter we received a couple of weeks back that had stated “You will not receive any further communications regarding financial aid in paper form.” Really…

No word yet on BFA Acting, anyone heard yet?
