UNCSA - the portal was just updated (at least for us) but did not get any email.
good news? 2024parentbfa
Thank you for asking but unfortunately no. Was not a top choice but would have preferred a yes…
Portal still isn’t showing anything but still have some hope. When did you all audition?
For UNCSA I think the “good news” only comes via phone call. I’m guessing those are over since everyone’s portals are updating. Good vibes and deep zen to everyone waiting for word from various BFA programs - this process can be very tough emotionally on the kids AND the “support staff” and it drags on foreeeevvveeeer. Stock up on wine to get you through March (parents)!
Our audition was in January. I read somewhere that if someone is wait listed, they will receive a letter (no call or portal update). Good luck @BoBatumBart !!!
Do you know around when such letter arrives? And I thought that you received a call if waitlisted? My son and I are going crazy! ?
I do not know when it would arrive. To be honest, does not make a lot of sense to me but so much of this process does not. I think it is probably a good sign that his portal has not been updated. Fingers crossed!
@BoBatumBart - I just checked prior threads and yes, waitlist notifications can come as calls or snail mail from UNCSA. Crossing my fingers and toes for you that you hear SOON!
@camom13 thank you so much! im keeping my toes crossed as well ?
Has anyone else still not gotten an Email/portal update or a phone call from UNCSA yet???
As portals are updated, phone calls are made, and snail mail begin to arrive, I want to remind everyone that a “wait list” decision is NOT a NO.
I encourage your sons/daughters to write hand-written notes to any school where they are on the wait list. Let the school know that you are very interested in their program (if you are).
In thinking back, my son thought he had his decision narrowed down to two programs, then in mid-April he got a call and came off the wait list at UNCSA. That was a game changer for him. He is happily in his second year there.
If your kiddo is waitlisted at one of his/her top programs, hold off as close to May 1 as you can to accept another school. There WILL BE MOVEMENT on all of these wait lists as students start accepting programs. Remember an applicant can only choose one school and if they are accepted into more than one program that is going to open up spaces. It is a giant puzzle. – Everyone will find their spot.
Best of luck to all. (The waiting is the hardest!!)
And piggybacking on what @STHmom said: if you have acceptances from schools that you know you definitely aren’t going to attend, let those schools know ASAP to possibly open up waitlist offers for other kids for those schools.
@actorparent1 - Absolutely! That’s what makes those wait lists move!
@STHmom such good advice! Last year my son even did a revisit at a school he was waitlisted at as a way to show interest, which I think really made a difference in him being the one who was called when a spot opened up. We didn’t hear about the waitlist until April 29!
My D2 didn’t hear from one WL until 5/1 year before last. And we have friends who heard into May and even June. She emailed several of her WLs (she was on a lot of them!) to let them know she was still interested in their program if she came off their WL. She also let the ones that she was not interested in know immediately.
All of the preparation for this process is grueling, but the waiting is the hardest part!
Waiting out the WL seems totally worth it in the right situation, but June? Oof. I guess you gotta play the long game sometimes.
Question: since you have to put down a deposits by May 1, if you get off a waitlist after that, can you still take that offer? How does that all work?
I know that has been talked about and I will find the information. But yes, you can take the waitlist offer and immediately let the school, where you put the deposit down, know that you will not be attending and let them know why.
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but as an FYI at least one SUNY Purchase call was made yesterday. A close friend of my D’s received an offer of admission. That friend has no idea whether all calls are out or not. HTH someone!
