BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

Only thing I know is that the MFA students are in competition with the BA kids. They all audition together.

@Noreplays2018 - sounds like youā€™ve had a week from hell. Hugs to you and your D. There are lots of us who wish we had done things differently back in the day. And here we are. Right now, your D has what she needs - parents who support her dream. It will be a big help if the dream school can make things right. Hoping for a happy outcome!

@Noreplays2018 - I agree. Do NOT beat yourself up over the way you lived your life. Seems to me like you are doing a great job with your D. Hugs!

One thing that I didnā€™t understand from your post, though. Which is correct- two kids in college or one? Trying to understand if FA will go up or down once it gets straightened out. Also - have all schools made the same mistake or just dream school?

@Noreplays2018 , huge hugs to you and your D. I agree, donā€™t beat yourself up - who of us knew that by the time our kids went to college, it would become SO ridiculously expensive?

Iā€™m glad they figured out what caused the problem, and I pray they correct it and give you more money! Itā€™s also good to hear that you have the option of deferring for one year so D can earn some money towards the tuition if necessary.

Sending you good vibes and hoping hard that your D can attend her dream school one way or another! Keep us posted.

@MomofJ5

I will have 2 kid in college. FA Dir. confirmed to my H that OUR EFC would be cut in half. But we also have other special circumstances bec I pay for my Mā€™s memory care off the top of our gross income so she is considered a dependent as well. Iā€™m not sure how that factors in bec dream school did consider that based on CSS Profile.

@Noreplays2018 I think most parents facing the daunting costs of college tuition look back and think about all the things we could have done differently. My daughter was in a very expensive competitive sport. I could have said no, and saved lots of cash, but then she wouldnā€™t be the person she is today without that experience. I have had a mantra lately of ā€œgood enough parentā€. Iā€™m trying to let go (and its hard) of all those difficult negative feelings this process. I screwed up big yesterday with a college. Once I get over my deep sense of embarrassment and can move onto laughing about it, I may just post the story. Iā€™m sure yesterday, thousands of parents were on the phone with FA offices. Big hug. Thereā€™s a lesson that all of us, and some lurkers, have learned because youā€™ve shared your story - people can change your FAFSA data without you even knowing about it. Thatā€™s a huge deal - so the next generation will know to question the FAFSA data the college is referencing if things look out of wack. Thanks for sharing. Iā€™ll add one more thing, just imagine the kids who are doing this on their own without much parental support.

Any BU parents on this board? Anyone accepting into BU?

@Noreplays2018 _ This is kind of scary that colleges can change your FAFSA data! I am hoping we can all get through to the other side without leaving any more creases in the face!

Regardless, we all have to take the some risk to ā€œgo for itā€ and believe the investment is going to turn out what we believe in! I believe in my daughter, and I think she has found a college that will be invested in her (training, opportunities to perform, audition, and build up professional contacts/agencies). Funny, but I was watching The Greatest Showman" last night and thinking about the big risk that P.T. took, asking the bank for money so that he could create something - not knowing if it would be awesome or not. We are in the same boat - investing in our children and believing in that awesome-ness that is going to come out in them - allowing them to live out their dream and see how it turns out.

As you said, sometimes the timing isnā€™t right. Maybe it needs another year to build up momentum. Never give up hope!

@Noreplays2018 Donā€™t be so tough on yourself! You sound like a wonderful supportive parent and the school just got on your last nerve

Thanks everyone. FA Director ā€œfrostyā€ act to H (yesterday he went in to personally apologize for my menopausal and circumstantial breakdown), so who knows. I find the fact that she told my H that the school who changed the FAFSA (probably by mistake?) was the #2 school. Given that the FA Director at #2 school is a good friend of mine from college (and no I havenā€™t called him to get more aid bec Dā€™s talent and academic aid gave us plenty of money), it makes me wonder if I should call him to find out how this works? Whether FA offices can do that or whether this was another ā€œmiscommunicationā€ between us and dream school (maybe we just donā€™t listen well or have suddenly lost our minds? Seriously, iā€™ve begun to question many things about how I think and respond under stress and itā€™s scary).

Anyway: could I get some feedback on whether calling my old friend to walk me through the process and asking if a FAFSA can be independently changed or MISTAKENLY changed )like hitting the wrong button) without a signature from the student is even possible?

This would seem to me to create lasting consequences.

I should have picked it up bec my d got no financial aid except unsubsidized Stafford loans at one school where she was admitted academically but not artistically and no need based grants at another school where she got lots of academic aid. In fact, at #2 school, she got basically ONLY the huge talent/academic award, the unsubsidized Stafford and one tiny $1k grant.

AND, inexplicably, my older Dā€™s FA package was reduced by 10k this year (grant money taken away).

When I appealed that I was told it was told that my mom was not listed as a dependent, which I found totally odd since sheā€™s been listed as one the last 2 years and I KNOW I included it in the CSS Profile bec dream school knew.

Take away: confirm that your FAFSA matches the one the school has. Mistakes or misreads or whatever aside.

@HopeinMT While I am not officially a BU parent yet, my daughter is probably going to commit to BU tomorrow. How about you? There are other BU parents on this board.

Wondering if any accepted BU students attended BUSTI last summer?

@collegeadmiss - my daughter did not attend BUSTI. I think there was some discussion of this a few weeks back.

@ginaf1102 My S committed yesterday. We are still Waitlisted for NYU and will continue to be so as it is his dream school but not holding out much hope. Very happy with BU though!!!

@collegeadmiss We did not attend Busti. In fact I came across BU unintentionally and pretty much signed my S up for the audition at Unifieds. It was his first Unifieds audition and he thought he would never get in as it was a Reach school. He interviewed with Ms. Donovan -she is amazing!! Then after acceptance we visited and he loves it!

@HopeinMT were are in a similar boat. My D is on the WL at CMU and while that was the dream for her since 10th grade, I donā€™t think it is anymore. After spending two days at BU her love for the program just skyrocketed. I wonder if our kids are in the same accepted students group chat? It is funny how our ā€œconfidentialā€ lives are really colliding now. And wow, McCaela Donovan is amazing!

@Ginaf1102 - She is! My daughter fell for the BU program after one info session and one audition with McCaela! BU went from being a ā€œlikeā€ to first choice over Unifieds. But she was rejected, alas. You and @HopeinMT have lucky (and talented) kids and I am sure they will love BU!

@Noreplays2018 I would definitely consult your friend!

My son committed to Emerson College todayā€¦so excited!!! He will be freeing up space at NYU, Hartt , American and Pace  Sooooooo glad this decision is made.

Anyone out there considering SUNY Purchase or Texas State Acting? Those, along with Webster, round out my Sā€™s top three choices. (Although, I do not think Webster is going to really be a factor in the end.)

He has been to TXST a couple of times and loves it. We went to Admitted Students day at Purchase on Friday and he got to attend several acting classes.

The proximity to NYC is a huge bonus for Purchase. ā€”ā€” Although the program coordinator said it is not a ā€œcutā€ program. My S got the idea from the students that it definitely was.

Any insights?
