BFA in painting but want to do poli sci

Is this possible? I JUST graduated with my BFA in painting and never thought twice about doing anything else when I was in school. I love art and know I could get into a good grad program with this, but I'm also extremely passionate about politics and would love to be involved in that field as well. Basically I'm torn. Is it possible (realistically) to get a double graduate degree (and of all things in art and poli sci)? I can't bring myself to completely abandon art, but I also can't ignore my growing enthusiasm for politics.

any suggestions, advice, etc?

Politics =/= political science.

Political science is the scientific study of how political bodies interact. You do not need a degree in political science to enter politics, and in fact, most politicians do not have political science degrees. Most political scientists are not politicians, but are researchers at government agencies, think tanks, and universities and colleges. You would only study for a degree in political science if you are interested in doing the kind of research and practical work that political scientists do, which involve everything from tracking the political behavior of people to analyzing policies and their effects on civic life.

If that’s what you’re interested in, you could get an MA in political science. Some MA programs may admit you directly, but more likely they will require you to take some prerequisite classes in political science. You do NOT need to go back for a second BA, but you could take some classes part-time at a local university in political science, and then apply for an MA in the field.

If you want to go into politics - like be a politician run for office or work with politics and public administration in government agencies - there are a variety of degrees you can get for that. You can get a master’s of public administration or a master’s of public affairs, or a master’s in public policy. The undergrad majors for that are usually open, but many of them require a few years of work experience.

And why do you want to get a dual degree in art and poli sci? What are you planning on doing with that? Graduate degrees are degrees to prepare you for inquiry or professional work in a field. I’ve never seen a dual degree in art and political science (although dual degrees are possible).
