Is anyone familiar with the Bachelor of Innovation in Music degree at University of Colorado- Colorado Springs? I’m looking at different music/business, music/engineering/comp science combinations of degrees within or not too far from Colorado with in-state or WUE tuition or around $30K COA. Is a BI too weird for the future resume when employers aren’t familiar with it? Is it better to get a major with a minor?
This program looks great. As the parent of a kid in a doctoral program that is related, I can tell you that there are many wonderful ways you can go with this degree, for grad studies and for career. More important, in my view, is that it will be a great experience to spend 4 years in this program, from what I can see. Sorry I don’t have personal experience with it.
UCSD has Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts. Brown University has the Computer Music MEME program, Oberlin has TIMARA. Many schools have computer technology/ electronics/ electroacoustic work in their music curriculum. Then there are programs in audio technology, sound engineering, acoustics etc. And straight composition degrees.
This program looks really wonderful in how it combines so many disciplines in one degree and offers flexibility in choices. Don’t know how new it is or what the reputation is, but maybe someone else does. I would go for it. In the field of contemporary music, this is not weird at all! And lots of follow up grad programs.
Within the state of CO, have you looked into the Department of Music and Entertainment Industry Studies (MEIS) at University of Colorado at Denver?
