Is it alright to bring a bible with you to I-day? Or will they just take it away?

The Academy will never mess with religion. Bring it along - you'll have no problems keeping it.

Hollow it out and bring candy in it ;)

You're gonna get smote for that comment :)

Smote is possibly the best word ever...

I would have to agree with you on that one

Just out of curiosity, can cadets at USAFA bring religious texts besides the bible, such as the koran.

Absolutely. Like I mentioned, being a government institution, USAFA is very careful not to discriminate in any way, shape, or form (though Mr. Weinstein might disagree, but that's a story for another day).

@$%& Petko, spare me, please...

:)

Actually I have a question on that note. How does the academy handle Sabbath keepers like Jews and Seventh-day Adventists? Seems like it would be hard to allow them to worship how they seem best with mandatory football games on Saturdays as well as SAMIs and what-not-else.

I'd imagine that leadership would probably be as accommodating as possible. SAMIs could be moved, football games might be able to be skipped, etc. I'm just speculating here, but if you genuinely desire to worship on Saturday or whichever day causes conflicts, someone in your chain of command will try to help you resolve it.

In the military, while they are very good at accommodating different religious beliefs and practices, they aren't going to cater everything to your schedule just because of your beliefs. There was a Jewish guy in my squad and he used to be excused from a lot of different things because of Jewish holidays and whatnot, but there is a point where you have to recognize that you're in the military and there are certain things that have to get done. However, I know during lent, they always have tuna out on Fridays, that kind of thing. They're careful not to discriminate, but there would be a point where it would become overboard.

That being said, bring your Bibles, journals, whatever you want. If it's religious, you'll be able to have it. I know an Episcopalian girl in my squad that was allowed to have her prayer book and prayer beads... I brought a prayer journal... You're covered if it's spiritual in nature. :)

I am a seventh-day adventist, so it could be interesting for me. Does anyone know any current cadets that are Seventh-Day Adventists?
