“I don’t think too many top HS school students in New England are clamoring to head to any Big 10 School over the Ivies.”
Maybe not, but in the Midwest they sure are.

Well, we are in the Midwest and I would say the only school kids are “clamoring” to get into in the Big Ten is Michigan (and of course NU but that’s not really the kind of school we are talking about because it’s private). We do have a lot of kids at our school going to Kelley at IU but, honestly, that program takes plenty of “eh” students with Bs and Cs. Kids aren’t “clamoring” to get in there unless they are an average student and it’s a reach. It has a good reputation but our best students would not choose it.
In Ohio, the best students aren’t just looking at Michigan and Northwestern. Many are choosing Ohio State for everything or Purdue or UICU for engineering or Indiana Or Penn State for business. As another poster said - maybe it’s the money or the perceived value being comparable to top private universities.
I personally think there’s no question these kids are getting a world class education, will be highly employable when they graduate and will probably be less entitled and better at dealing with and working with others when they enter the work force.
