What schools get recruited most by the "Big 4" ? Interested in going into accounting/finance and would like to know what schools in the United States are known for having their students go to Big 4 companies

I did a Google search to help figure out what the question was.

Wikipedia says

The Big 4, sometimes written as the Big Four, are the four largest international accountancy and professional services firms, which handle the vast majority of audits for publicly traded companies as well as many private companies. The Big Four firms are shown below, with their latest publicly available data:
Firm Revenues People
PricewaterhouseCoopers [1] $25.2bn 146,700
Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu [2] $23.1bn 150,000
Ernst & Young [3] $21.1bn 130,000
KPMG [4] $19.8bn 123,000

BYU (Marriott), Indiana University (Kelley), Notre Dame (Mendoza), Texas-Austin (McCombs) and UIUC are very popular hunting grounds for the Big 4.

Does anybody really dream of growing up and being an accountant?

Yes, people who want a stable well paid career.

Yes I want to grow up to be an accountant

Isn't it fairly easy to outsource accountants to India? White-collar jobs are on the march...Eastward!

I have not seen that much at all.

They outsource a large amount of work for tax, but tax is still a growing area inside cpa firms. You still need the client contact to collect and format the data.

CMU's Tepper postgrad salary reports consistently have top consulting companies (also McKinsey) as their usual recruiters. Its also #2 in Operations.

also, try any top school in the top 10 or an Ivy.

UT McCombs, almost 90% of UT MPA students land big 4 jobs. Its fairly easy for even BBA, and BHP students to land big 4 jobs. Indiana and BYU doesnt even come close to McCombs in recruiting and quality education. UT McCombs ranks number 1 in accounting in BBA, MBA, PHD.

Accountants are currently in high demand in the States (especially after Sarbanes-Oxley). I wouldn't worry about outsourcing, not in the foreseeable future. I know that almost all MPAcc-tax grads at UW-Seattle landed Big 4 jobs (that is, for those who wanted to work for the Big 4); and many landed jobs in major markets like NYC, San Francisco, LA, etc. The same for UT PPA/MPA grads; and I would expect the same for most of the top accounting programs.

Please check out the "Business Major" forum and go to the thread, " Everything youwanted to know or should know about accounting."

hmmmmmmmmmmmm....stupid comment

What's with the new UT-Combs troll?

Public Accounting jobs, unlike internal accounting jobs, cannot be outsourced. An audit opinion must be issued by someone holding a CPA license in the state where the firm is audited. Failure to produce this audit opinion will keep a firm from being able to issue securities and receive any external financing.
