if you ace one test but bomb the other, how will this look on the app (assuming you sent your scores)

Colleges will take your highest score.

i mean like 1 high SAT score and 1 low ACT score

Last I remember you had a really good score on the SAT. You don't have to submit your ACT score at all unless you already sent them. You can call up ACT if you don't want to send them, or retake the ACT in September and October, and you can choose which score report you can send(ie I could take the ACT everytime from 9th grade and score a 35 on the 5th one I took in 11th grade, and I could send that one score and colleges would never know about the other ones).

I think that they would be more attracted to the one with the higher score. I'm sure they know that the many people who took the ACT also took the SAT but were too scared to turn in that SAT score, and you had to because you had to turn in your SAT subject test scores.

I think you can designate which one you want them to look at. Let's say you get 33 ACT and a 1900(what I got in January) on the SAT. They'll see that SAT even though they know you want them to look at the ACT score. I don't think they'll put you under people who say got a 32-34 ACT and didn't turn in some SAT score. Either way, hopefully an admissions process doesn't turn into something like, "hmmm, these guys both have a 33 ACT, but one has a 2100 SAT and the other has a 1900, I'll take the 2100." They'll always pay more attention to GPA and your involvment in the community, and I think they're done with the standardized tests part once they see that 30+ or 2000+.

they'll take your highest score.. so say you send in a 30 ACT but a 2250 SAT, then they'll look at the SAT score

nice - but what if on the ACT, say you bomb the science, but you want to go into a science major, will that have a bad effect?

^ No, because the science test is a reading test, not a knowledge of science test.

well, thats a relief, cuz i got smoked on the science section :)
