I was wondering if it is possible to be hired by a Big Four company with an econ degree straight out of college? I attend a school that is in the top 25 rankings with its business school being a target school for many recruiters, but I am afraid I will not be able to receive admission to the business school as it is pretty competitive to get into. If I don't get in, I plan to get my CPA, but would I be able to snatch a job from the Big Four?

It is definitely possible. Just be sure to network. The big four just care about your interpersonal skills not your technical skills. I have my CPA and have a lot of experience with recruiting.

You will need to get a masters in accounting to get your CPA, but its definitely possible. Also, advisory hires econ.

Hi Gurantetra,

Yes, you can get into one of the Top 4 accounting firms. I have friends who works for one of the Top 4 and graduated with a B.A. in Management and Economics (broad degree) or just a B.A. in Business Administration, not really Accounting. The key to their success was being accepted into the Top 4 account firm’s internship program. Once they became interns, they were able to receive a job offer once they graduated. Another person didn’t receive a job offer from the accounting firm straight after college, so he studied for the CPA, and completed 3/4 of the exam in about a year. Very smart students, and depends how determined you are. Later on, they gave him a job offer. So, there are always opportunities and ways to get there.
