<p>Melsmom, while your D may not have gotten into her ideal choice, a BFA in MT, she has some exciting opportunities on her plate and I believe she can and will still pursue this passion within the context of the opportunites she was given (theater or dance) and will succeed and enjoy what lies ahead. She'll take these opportunities and run with them, I'm sure. She will still be training and performing! While there are disappointments involved, there are a lot of plusses and positives too and she'll turn to those now. All the best.</p>

<p>Melsmom: I think you have a fantastically healthy attitude which I am certain your daughter has picked up on, and that attitude will allow her to have an absolutely terrific time in college---how can she help it?--and she will begin to wonder how she ever thought any other fit could have been better for her--it happened to D#1 five years ago when we didnt even know enough to apply to more than a couple of MT schools! She ended up at one that was not nearly her first choice but she has absolutely thrived there--I can't imagine her having had more opportunities to perform than she has had at this school, or a better learning environment. college is just like everything in life: you get back exponentially what you put into it. It really is a win-win situation. I wish your D all the happiness and excitment this new and thrilling time in life will bring. </p>

<p>Hey Melsmom: Just so you know my daughter felt your daughter was among the very best dancers she encountered in all her auditions.</p>

<p>Melsmom, it basically comes down to looking at what you do have, than what you do not. Also, if one has goals and dreams, they keep going for them and this might not be the exact plan she had to get there but it is still a way to get there. I just think it might feel like "less" or disappointing (understandably) because it wasn't the original plan or ideal choice. We can't always get that ideal choice but then rearrange a bit and come up with new plans and look at the opportunities that ARE available. Your D has some good ones, too.</p>

<p>Another thing is....when you are going through the college admissions process, you're really really wrapped up in it. It takes on a HUGE importance at the time. This is true of all of us.....the kids, the parents, etc. Not just your family or mine. But as this time passes, I just KNOW that when the fall rolls around and particularly midway through next year, your D will be engaged in things she loves to do, learning along the way, most likely very very happy. Sometimes that is hard to see NOW admidst the college admissions frenzy and the huge significance it has in your lives, but this is probably what is going to happen by this time next year. She'll forget what her ideal or first choice was but will be thriving and making the most of the choice she was given. Opportunities await her. It is time to look at the positive side to all this. She'll have to decide between the theater BA or the dance program she got into and I am sure she'll figure out which is best and which appeals more to her needs and interests. Then she'll go do it, and thrive and be on her way. Whatever the ideal path was at the outset, doesn't mean it was the only way to get there or the only way to success or happiness. Many many college aged kids are not at their first choice but nonetheless came to love where they are at. They just did not realize this in April of senior year of HS. Julie's account above is an example. So, disappointment is fully understandable but if these seniors can now move on and look at what they DID get and not what they didn't, they'll find their way and most likely everything will work out just fine.</p>

<p>Melsmom, I obviously do not know your D but what NYTheatermom just wrote brings to my mind......your D obviously has a gift. She is likely a superb dancer (she got into a dance program!) and so she'll run with those gifts. Perhaps it was meant to be that she do a program with that emphasis because of her gifts.</p>
