BIG MONEY for Colleges from Applications!!!

I think that is already happening. The students are generally risking their parents’ money, not their own. (Lower-income students usually can have the fees waived.) And even if they apply to all eight Ivies and every other top-tier school, the “payoff” of the presumed life advantages they will have from this elite education will make it worth the $500-1000 “risk” in application fees. If anything, I’d say making it MORE expensive to apply (for those who can afford it) might help reduce the arms race and force kids to think more carefully about where they are applying rather than taking the “what the hell–I’ll never know if I don’t apply” approach many are now.

sally, seems to me that might just hurt the middle class. The lower-income folks would still get waivers, and the wealthy would still be able to pay just as many application fees.

Hum-interesting converstion here.I stand by my statement that colleges are making alot of money of app fees. at the expense of those applying.I just think its wrong to use college apps. as a place to make money. Then again everthing colleges do is about making money from charging you for parking to charging you an app fee when you graduate. I attended a tour of a major university($15 to park with no refund).I took thier tour and they never even wrote my name down for attending. There was no way there could be any follow up to see if I was interested.Thats ok thought for them as they get 25 thousand apps so why should they care about me.I can tell you that will be my last choice if I am excepted there.I did apply because it offeres something I am looking for in thier curriculum.
