Again, I think there is no comparison between being a celebrity and being a member of the royal family. I DON’T think she understood what she was getting into.
Her decision was to marry Harry. I haven’t heard that she regrets that.
Let’s say you are right. She knows what it is like now, however. Is the appropriate response to move to Canada, hang onto the royal title and security, and trademark and sell “sussex royal” goods for personal gain?
The racist attacks are unprecedented for the Royal family, for obvious reasons. A BBC presenter compared their baby to a chimpanzee. I don’t think she could have anticipated that. I wouldn’t want her to.
I think she understood more than people are giving her credit for. I don’t understand why people assume this move is all her doing. Harry has been trying to find his own path for quite a while. Weren’t they planning on moving to Africa a few months ago?
AMEN ^^^^^^^^^^ To lay the blame for all of this on Meghan and what she knew/should have known is simplistic, likely misogynistic and plays totally into the tabloid trope of the ambitious, BLACK American bride out to manipulate poor besotted Harry. When you’ve got no one to blame, blame the woman. That always works. (Sheesh.)
Things became even more serious when various outlets reported she took her dogs back to Canada too. ?
She is the one in Canada. If she and the child stayed in the UK and Harry were in Canada, I expect the press would be highly critical over his escape from royal duties.
Does being born into the royal family mean your life should be theirs to control until you die? Who here wants a life where your livelihood depends on the goodwill of your in-laws? Harry and his family only have a job until his grandmother, father, and/or brother says they do, and his father has made it clear he wants to downsize.
Marrying into a family shouldn’t mean completely giving up your autonomy. It doesn’t matter who paid for the wedding. This is a young couple with a family of their own. They should get to choose where they live, what line of work they want, and how to raise their children.
I think people misinterpret the meaning of streamlining the monarchy; it does not mean kicking Meghan and Harry to the kerb - they have an integral role in the future of the RF, and when the Queen dies, Harry will be 5th in line (his son 6th). While chances of him ever ascending the throne are remote, chances are still chances.
I think the whole debacle is a tragedy.
Kinda. If your living is fully supported by the “royal ness”. We all somewhat “enslave” ourselves for pay. For a small fraction of what they were getting. They can break it off and support themselves fully on their own. I don’t know if they can make millions that they were probably getting. Or even a fraction of it to live comfortably.
IMO, it’s just as easy to spin a positive narrative to the announcements as it is to spin a negative narrative.
But! Negative is juicy & gets clicks.
@momo2x2018 – it’s true that no one knows what “streamlining” the royal family means. Which is probably one reason why Meghan and Harry wanted some ability to control their lives in the event that streamlining proved too constricting for them. If you knew your job, income and responsibilities were likely to change dramatically, wouldn’t you want some say in what they would look like?
Did they try to have “some say” before breaking off?
The vitriol is obvious in all of your posts.
Maybe she actually fell in love with the guy and was naive about how Royalty differs from celebrity. Maybe she’s never experienced such overt racism in her life and didn’t imagine the scope she’d be facing.
She could have been a powerful voice against racism from inside the palace. Lost opportunity in a way.
Allegedly they did if any news reports can be believed.
I have a feeling they can earn enough to live comfortaby.
The announcement of the Queen is interesting; of note, she does not refer to H&M by their official titles, she refers to them as H&M. Maybe a clue of things to come?
Seems like a good solution reached which could be a model for the future. Once one drops out of the top 5 in the line of succession, one’s royal duties could conclude and public payments stop. Seems a win for everyone, and useful in 30 years for Charlotte and Louis.
