Big News From Harry and Meghan - Royal Family Stepping Back

Harry will be top five within the next few years; I wonder if he will remain so once he ‘steps back’? If not, I assume that takes his son out of the running as well, which means Randy Andy gets a boost up the ladder!

I do not think it likely the 38 year old Duchess is ignorant, naive, or was wholly sheltered from racism in society. I really do think more highly of her acumen than that.

Good to know. In that case, I don’t see why they couldn’t break it off.

Sounds good. Now the royals should get a job training for an uncertain future. What is Harry trained to do to make a living?

@roycroftmom - I agree this may be a model for the future. In another 25 years, Charlotte and Louis will be in the same pickle as Harry. It behooves the royal family to create expectations now for what is to come. And again, this is something other royal families have been dealing with. The king of Sweden just recently “downgraded” five of his grandchildren. Streamlined royal families whose main objective is to be able to justify their roles is 21st century reality for many of them.

She has said in the past that people rarely were clued in to the fact that she is mixed race, so it’s very possible she has been “sheltered” from racism, certainly of the type that would involve a public figure referring to a child she loves as a monkey.

So, just because you “knew” of something, you are not supposed to react to it, have any feelings about it, or try to make your life better?

The “she knew” argument is very strange to me.

This link has the headline I mentioned a few days ago that I couldn’t post because it was on Twitter. I mean, I get that negative clicks get traction … so why aren’t the Kate stories negative in order to garner clicks?

@Youdon’tsay,

I think it’s pretty obvious why.

^^^ That was sarcastic.

They still want to keep Frogmore. How odes that mesh with “financially independent”? I guess Queen’s guest? Are they going to refuse handouts from Prince Charles if offered?

They probably should give it up, though it has never belonged to them. I believe it belongs solely to the Queen.

Frogmore is part of the crown estate, so not the Queen’s private property.

If nothing else comes of this horror reality show, it will be that the Brits and the world will be way more educated about the way the firm works.

Do individuals in the royal family get to own anything on their own? I thought Diana had an estate (money and jewelry) to pass to her sons, but are they allowed to own property? If so, do Charles and his mother own any property that they could pass to Meghan and Harry if they wanted?

As long as they don’t expect British or Canadian taxpayers to pay for their security detail (which is a pretty big expense)…

I marvel at the queen at age 93. She seems to be of sharp mind and conducts herself with constant grace and dignity. She has aged in a way we can all dream of. My heart breaks for her a bit. I’m sure all of this has upset her and taxed her. Nobody wants turmoil in their family.

I understand that members of the royal family do have personal assets. Though it seems like a grey area when family assets have been passed down through generations (and income made on those assets) from a time when the view was everything belonged to the crown.

Helicopter pilots do fairly well if we’re talking about vocational type training. Or, should be choose to leverage his fame, he would do well with any number of money making ventures from public speaking to hosting shows to putting in “appearances” in various places.

Nearly all of the criticism comes from a few tabloids - the Daily Mail and a couple of others. I doubt anyone actually offends her in person.

Why bother reading that garbage? It seems obvious that if it’s so upsetting, just don’t read it.

This is the article I was referring to from a few years back that mentioned Harry had given an interview stating he wanted to quit The Firm. I don’t see how anyone can blame Meghan, when Harry has already been inclined to do more than just step back.

I think they are just a couple in love that don’t enjoy all the shaking hands, cutting ribbons and all that stuff. Throw in the nastiness they’ve encountered and beautiful Canada sure sounds enticing.
