lol I never said I drank. He just jumps to rediculous assumptions. And it was a serious question. "Absolute stupidity" is not a symptom of alcohol consumption. Blacking out, passing out, hangover, and vomiting are symptoms which you may consider absolute stupidity. So, MightyNick, if you are watching someone who is drinking, at what point do you say, "He has had too much to drink, and I think he is stupid."

At the point he/she starts acting unreasonable/stupid.

Example: Second week of college. Random chick and guy come to my room, completely drunk (I don't know them). Start talking random stuff about themselves. Stay in my room for a long time, talking loudly at 2am in the morning about stuff that is so random. I ask them to leave, politely. They go out, into the room next door and after a while they start running up and down our hallway. It's precisely this behavior that annoys the hell out of me. Next day I saw those people again and said hi, but they refused to recognize me. How rude.

That's what happened in my dorm. Let's not even talk about what happened at the frat parties.

For those of you who defend excessive alcohol drinking....you're just trying to find a reason to justify your own stupid actions.

Come on now, drinkers and non-drinkers, play nice.

Do you know what binge drinking is defined as? 5 or more drinks on one occasion, for a male.
[/quote]

Haha, 5 drinks (roughly about 7.5 fl. oz. of an 80-proof liquor) is just when most people start to get a decent buzz. You'd have to go about twice over that in order to start doing things you really regret.

Precisely. Which is why MightyNick is now backpedaling from saying that binge drinking is inherently immoral. That's par for the course with self-righteous people who don't really know the facts of the matter.

mighty nick, maybe you shoulda had a drink with them, made friends with them, be nice. maybe they were having a great time meeting random people and running around, they prolly had great sex too. is that irresponsible/immature? sure, but hell...we're young people, what's the point of acting mature now? ain't nuthin' wrong with a bit of fun.

They probably didn't say hi to you because they don't remember you from last night.

"Binge drinking" isn't enough to do a lot of the really stupid stuff. But then again, I don't know many people who associate binge drinking with 5 drinks. More like 10+ drinks.

Binge drinking? Bah.
There's no such thing.

Plenty of binge drinking at Virginia Tech, see this related topic:

I tend to draw the line of stupidity at blacking out or otherwise not remembering what you’ve been doing…at best you’ve wasted what might have been a fun experience by not being able to recall it and at worst you could’ve done something very regrettable.

But a lot of people I know seem to enjoy spending the next morning cobbling together a record of their debauchery through facebook pictures since nobody remembers what happened.

Oh man, not this again. Two words: carpe diem

My school’s campaign for “safe/minimal drinking” poster says: “Who wants to be the loose goose? 9 out of 10 MSU students disapprove drinking to the point of passing out.”

Well, 9 out of 10 MSU students may “disapprove” of drinking to the point of passing out, 9 out of 10 MSU students do it anyways

Then, “Pick up chicks by respecting the limits. 54% of MSU students consume 0 to 4 drinks when they party.”

Well if this is true, then the other 46% of MSU students must consume 5-20 drinks each time they party. That’s a LOT of drunk students. And that’s A LOT of alcohol.

Ehhh. Just my schools’ take on it.

i just read the thing about the CC poster who advocated drinking, and then died due to drinking too much.
All I have to say is, LOL pwned

I just don’t get why binge drinking became so popular. It’s one thing to have a few beers to feel relaxed while at a party or with your friends, but another to be puking and blacking out to the point that you can’t even hang out with your friends…

Also, binge drinking probably wouldn’t be as attractive and rebellious if the drinking age was lowered to 18–or even 19 to “avoid” 18 year olds in high school from procuring it…not that that would stop them (it doesn’t stop 15 year olds), but that is one concern always brought up by the folks who agree with the current law.

^^ I agree I’m more of the have a few drinks with friends type, but I know my limits and getting drunk and blacking out doesn’t really appeal to me.

You know, I used to be hugely against lowering the drinking age to 18.

Now that I’m in college, I’m not quite as against it. Most college kids drink pretty responsibly…the percentage that drink to the point of passing out is pretty small.

… they lowered the drinking age in US, but adopted a cigarrete-like approache: banning it in most places, collecting high fines / closing premises that allows underage drinking, increase driver’s license suspensions for ppl getting DUI and, as important as, making a fenoly to carry a gun while under influence.

It’s the kids who don’t comprehend the idea that alcohol has diminishing returns that crack me up. What’s wrong with drinking until you have a buzz, maintaining it through the evening, and NOT vomiting/blacking out/waking up feeling like…?

throwing up and blacking out =/= fun

"Even binge drinking for college, so you might cut 5 years off your life. Big deal. if you had fun it’s worth it. "

I personally do think that this is a mature outlook on life. After a while, you realize that life is something to be enjoyed.
