Binge watched tv shows

We finished season 1 of Ray Donovan. I can’t put my finger on what this series reminds me of- a little bit Sopranos, a little Breaking Bad? The characters are interesting. Waiting on season 2 to get to our library.

Liev is so deliciously intense. The brothers are wacky. And Jon Voight is super. I’m not nuts about the wife and kids, but really liked the - oops, how not to spoil?

I will say that this is one series that I did often re-watch an episode before going on.

Fun fact – Liev Schreiber and Pablo Schreiber (Pornstache on OITNB) are half-brothers.

^^ I was shocked when I learned that. I loved Pablo on The Wire.

We really liked Turn: Washington’s Spies, and are hoping it gets renewed for a 4th season. You can binge watch it on Amazon Prime.

Why were you shocked, @LucieTheLakie ? :).

The Schreiber brothers are well-educated, well-trained theatre actors so not a surprise that they are talented. I highly recommend that if you ever have the chance to see either of them on stage, that you take it.

@alwaysamom, I don’t know why, honestly. I guess because I just never made the connection, and I’d never seen Pablo before. Mind you I didn’t watch The Wire until I bought it on DVD and bingewatched it in 2012.

Lucie, I never realized Pablo was in The Wire. It has been years and years since I watched it and I guess I didn’t remember him because he looked so different in OITNB! Thanks for pointing it out.

I just watched 13 Hours on On Demand the other day - Pablo was in that, too.

@patsmom, Pablo was in season 2 of The Wire, the one about the dockworkers. One of the most memorable performances of his for me was the role he played in several episodes of Law & Order: SVU a couple of years ago. He played an evil, evil man to perfection.

He was also a regular on The Gifted Man, another very good NY filmed show that included lots of talented theatre actors. I miss that one.

Lazy, chilly day here so I’ve been bingewatching Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on Netflix. It’s a musical comedy and it’s really good/funny. I’m already on episode 9.

DD has been binge watching Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, too. I have watched some and it is funny.

I’m watched mg Chopped and n food network. Champions were brought back to compete against each other. The winners of those challenges just began.

TA, I can’t sleep.

@katliamom - I watched episode one of “The Night of” last night. I thought it was really good! The kid who plays Naz is so believable (even as I was screaming at him - “No! What are you doing?!”) and I love John Tutturro’s character.

And as a bonus - I hear that Michael K. Williams (OMAR!!!) plays an inmate at Rikers.

J.D. Williams (Bodie from The Wire) was in it, too. He played Trevor, the young black guy who witnessed Naz and the girl go into her house. Skip Sudduth (Sully from Third Watch) played a cop (again). Kevin Dunn (Ben Cafferty on Veep) had a brief shot near the beginning of the episode. I have a feeling there will be lots of “there’s THAT guy” moments throughout the rest of the episodes. I thought it was really good, too. Best moment was when Box was describing the murder weapon as the officer pulled that knife from Naz’s jacket!

@patsmom - My H kept pointing at Trevor and saying “I know he was on The Wire! Who was he?”

It’s like watching “Law and Order” and finding the same old faces over and over.

I watched the first 3-4 episodes of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and then never went back to it. Rachel Bloom is pretty much exactly in my wheelhouse, and the kids and I followed her pre-CEG stuff on the web with great enthusiasm. I loved the concept and some of the production numbers from CEG. But. All of the characters were so unlikable, and the show didn’t do enough to make it fun to watch notwithstanding that problem. I also had the sense that some of what I had really liked in Bloom’s work got tamped down in the effort to create a show that would attract a large enough audience on network TV.

But if someone tells me that the show found its legs after a few episodes and I really should watch it, I would be happy to give it another chance.

I will have to check out Crazy Ex-GF. I’m just starting OITNB new season now that there is a break in the tennis calendar.

Anybody else planning to watch “The A Word” on Sundance Channel? (The “A word” being “autism.”) It’s only six episodes. I’ll probably wait until the entire season records and then watch it all at once. I love Morven Christie on “Grantchester.”

I watched the first episode of The Night Of on demand a couple of weeks ago and liked it a lot. And, yes, Bodie from The Wire was very good! J.D. Williams never ages! He’s almost 40 and still looks like Bodie!

Binged on the Shannara Chronicles and Stranger Things (Netflix) this past weekend. I wasn’t sure I was going to make it through Stranger Things (I’m not into horror/slasher/gross-blood-and-guts) but the story hooked me, and the blood/gore never passed my threshold (unlike Turn and Vikings – both shows I wold have liked to have continued watching.)
