can someone help me out? i got into northeastern with no aid or scholarships. I would have in state tuition at binghamton and university of vermont gave me a ton of merit aid. is the fact that northeastern is a "better" and more well known school worth the 50,000 a year over uvm or binghamton which would both be around 20,000 a year?

Depends on your major. I say Binghamton is superior and cheaper and the other two.

I wouldn’t spend that much extra to go to NEU. Too much of a price differential in your case.
What major are you considering? I would probably choose UVM unless you knew Binghamton’s program in your major was better.

There is nothing at Northeastern that I could see justifying an extra $ 120,000 in debt after 4 years. Binghamton is an undervalued school academically but the location is not my personal cup of tea. Vermont is probably slightly weaker academically but would probably be my own personal choice when factoring in money, location, and the on campus experience. Unless there is some compelling program at NEU drawing you there and/or no issue with your family picking up a $ 50k yearly tab, I’d head off to Binghamton or Vermont.
