I'm doing early action, but the deadline is in 10 days. I can finish the common app and send it in, along with my essay and everything else by November 15, but the B-NUMBER has possibly gotten me delayed. It says it'll take 10 days.

How long does it take? Should I take the risk and send in my common app now and do early action and risk missing deadline if my b-number doesn't come in time?

I don’t really remember how long it took to be honest, but for admissions purposes, I think I used my social security number for most things. It was easier to remember than some randomly assigned number that I won’t really need unless I matriculated. I don’t know if they give that as an option anymore though.

They’ve since eliminated the use of the SS number for most things on campus. Registration, declaring or dropping of a major, etc., uses the B-number although older forms ask for either. It serves the same purpose as a SSN, just without the need to disseminate your SSN to everyone.

I think I screwed up big time. I was in a rush to get everything done so I had my transcripts sent over(I’m applying as a transfer) before I even got my B-number. I hope this doesn’t affect me too badly. Hopefully, they will just put it to the side until my B number comes in.

You send your application in and then get the B Number and then a password, and have time to complete. I got an email 2 days after they received the application. My password ended up in junk mail even though all other emails came to inbox, keep an eye out.
