Bio major?

Biology majors has so many freaking requirements like orgo, physics, and biochem that I'm scared of. Why do we need all that crap when the programs of study in it are more specific? I want to be in Ecology and Evol. Biology but to do so I'll have to take all that? :|

It’s not that bad. Orgo and physics are fun, albeit very time consuming. And biochem is easy. They want bio majors to have a solid foundation in the physical sciences.

I just wrote a bit about this over in the other thread you started, if you want to check that out…I agree with Caillebotte, though, about how they want a solid foundation. you don’t necessarily need to see how it applies immediately, but you do want to have that built up knowledge of how biology/chemistry works in general, and then you can call on it for the rest of your education and possibly career. even if you don’t remember the details of how the organic molecules react, you will understand what a nucleophilic attack is, and if you see some biochemical pathway in a paper you will be able to understand on some level why things work the way they do.
