What do I need to know in order to do well in C100A? I ask because I technically have the ability to skip Bio 1A and was wondering if my current knowledge is good enough to do well in C100A.

So the typical biochemistry sequence is something like Chem 1A → Chem 3A → Bio 1A → Chem 3B → MCB 100A. You want to jump right into MCB 100A?

You need a solid background in molecular biology, organic chemistry, and even some physics for that class. I took MCB 100A second semester sophomore year and felt like that was too early. I got an A- in the class, but it was hard to stay on track during lectures and I had to put a lot of effort into it.

If you think your AP Bio/AP Chem knowledge is sufficient to do well in MCB 100A, you are wrong. Most Berkeley students who major in MCB Biochemistry are very smart and the majority of them will have also taken and gotten 5s on those AP tests. Stop acting like you’re smarter than everyone else, you don’t know that. Maybe if you can ace Bio 1A and OChem, you can start to think that.

No no no, I’m still taking Chem 3A and 3B; I was just wondering what aspects of Bio 1A in particular are necessary background knowledge.
