Biochemistry and German Doublemajor?

I am seriously considering going to medical school, and am intrigued as to how that should affect my major choice. I am currently planning to major in Biochemistry (because I love biology and chemistry, not because it is a "pre-med major") and in German (since I have a natural ability in German and love the language and culture). Will double-majoring in biochem and German make it difficult to graduate in 4 years? Would it look good for medical school applications? Thanks for your advice!

There’s going to be basically zero course overlap between those two, which always makes double majoring difficult. Keep in mind that you might also have to fulfill pre-med requirements on top of that that don’t fit into either of those majors (like perhaps psychology/sociology or statistics). Depending on the school and if you have some AP or similar credit when you start, it might be possible in 4 years. But the double major will very likely not put you at an advantage for med school applications. Because med school apps are very grades-focused, it might end up hurting you if you have to take course overloads, etc. and end up dropping your GPA as a result.

I’ve also got a knack for German and considered doing a major in college for awhile but decided against it. Instead I did a co-op in Germany and spent 6 months working there. My brother got a German minor and studied abroad there for a year. My dad took a gap year before grad school and spent a year working in a lab in Germany. If you enjoy the language and culture, there are a lot of options besides a double major!
