So I just took the general GRE and now I am focusing on taking the Biochemistry GRE on October 13th. All the subjects on the test I took for my last year courses (I am currently a senior in college) and I feel as though this gave me a good overview for the test. But I haven't studied during the summer because I was focusing on the general and now I am freaking out about the subject test...I have all my old text books but with a little less then three weeks to take the test and college beginning soon I am freaking out!!! Any advice??? I plan on going over powerpoints from my old classes and my old notes for about 2-3 hours a day until the test. Is this a waste of time or should I do something different? Please help and thank you very much in advance.

I took the exam and did well in two categories but bombed the third. I decided not to send it anywhere. It did not negatively impact my application cycle one tiny bit. So, my advice would be to take it, try your best, and if you do well great. If not, just don’t send the scores.

Right. It will be a (not insignificant) waste of money, but probably won’t hurt your application as it’s rarely required and only sometimes recommended. There is a practice test on the GRE site. Take that and see how you do on timing and which subjects to focus more heavily on.

I took the general bio GRE and got something like 96 percentile on the molecular portion, 87 on organismal, and something in lousy, maybe the 60’s or 70’s in the ecology/evolution portion (I have absolutely no interest in ecology). I still submitted it, as they actually send the sub-scores. I don’t think it helped or hurt me, no one cared.
