I am going to be an incoming freshman focusing on Biochemistry as my major. I got the gist of the classes. But I just want to know what previous Biochemistry majors took as their first quarter classes and so on. Right now I am thinking of taking English Comp. 3, Chem 20a and Math 31a. How many units is that? I've heard that three classes are the recommended amount for the first quarter; so as to get used to how college works. Is there some other class that I should be aware of and should be taking???

I have yet to fulfill my Writing I & II requirements. As well as my foreign language requirement. If that helps...

That’s a good first quarter schedule. I just finished my first year as a biochem major and I took Chem 20A, Math 31B, and a GE my first quarter. I then took Eng Comp 3 spring quarter. Your schedule is 13 units (5 units for Eng Comp 3 and 4 each for Chem and Math).

You took 31B? Did you skip 31a? What GE did you take your first quarter?

I haven’t gone to orientation yet so I am really stressing out just for planning out the right classes I’m gonna take. I heard that at orientation I’ll get a detailed explanation of everything but I’m afraid that by the time I am informed, all the classes I would have wanted to take would be all gone.

I got a 5 on AP Calc AB, so I could skip Math 31A. Yah you shouldn’t worry too much, you are definitely ahead of where most people are. Your orientation counselor will explain everything you need to know about UCLA and more and which classes to take. And that schedule is perfect since almost every biochem freshman takes that schedule.

I took Art History 56A (Indian and Southeast Asian art). It isn’t offered fall quarter. Eng Comp 3 is a lottery system with reserved spaces for each orientation session. So, just have a backup GE if you don’t get into it.

Alright. Thanks so much! I over think things like these too much. You don’t know how much this bit of information has relieved me. Once again, thanks! :D
