Hey guys, I was wondering what your guys' thoughts are on biochemistry at Case. I was initially planning on being BME, but after considering how many students start out as BME and how few finish it, I've decided to think of potential alternative majors.

So how do current students like it? Is the grading particularly harsh? I'd like to go to medical school, so would biochem prepare you well?

Also, would it be possible to major in biochem and take some management courses at Weatherhead? Thanks!

i'm actually considering the same thing. My friend Kim is in Biochem and she got a 4.0 her first semester. As for business classes, the Weatherhead department heard (or something big like that) told me that minoring in business is easy and many engineers do it! I'm thinking about management or marketing and he told me it's much easier to major in engineering and minor in business instead of the other way around bc engineering minors still require you to take engineering core classes/prerequisites.

Buck_futters,
I'm a current Biochem BS soph at Case with many friends in BME including a couple who made the BME to Biochem switch not because they weren't doing well academically but because they didn't like engineering. Because of the way course sequencing is set up it is very possible to start out as BME and switch to biochem freshman/sophomore year, you won't be at all behind. The grading isn't that bad. Some people just fall really far behind and then are unable to catch up.

About weatherhead yes absolutely you can take classes there and you could even switch to a business major part way through. Even though it's called "weatherhead" it's not a separate school in the sense that you'd have to apply to get in. If you're thinking you might want to go into industry I believe they have some courses geared toward managing biotech stuff.
