BioE major change, EE at UCSD

Hey all,

I just got into UCSD's BioE dept for the Bioinformatics track. This is the only major in the BioE dept that is not ABET accredited. This worries me and I am going to call them tomorrow to see if I can change into the BioE: Biotechnology track which IS accredited by ABET.

The problem is, the Biotech track is impacted, so I may not be able to change my major. Do any of you have experience with major changes at UCSD? Would I be able to easily change into a traditional engineering major like EE(not impacted) if I am not able to switch into the impacted BioE: Biotech major?

If I were to have the option to switch my major to EE, would this be a good decision? Many of you on here advise to avoid BioE, which got myself thinking. However, UCSD is notorious for its BioE dept which I was admitted into. My question is, should I choose to stick with the BioE: Bionformatics major(not ABET accredited) if I am unable to switch to BioE: Biotech(accredited, but impacted)? Or, should I switch my BioE: Bioinformatics to a traditional engineering major such as EE.

Thank you and please advise as I am eager to hear your input.

Depends on what you want to do. Do you want to get a job after graduation, do research, go to med school, or go to grad school? What do you want to do with your degree?

Yes switching to EE is a better route to take since you will have more job opportunities after graduation; you wont be pigeonholed into bio careers and medical device makers hire tons of traditional engineers.

I would like to go straight into the workforce after graduation and possible get my MS.

Anybody else?
