Bioengineering: UCSD or UC Berkely?

Bioengineering: UCSD or UC Berkely?

We need to select between USCD and Cal(UC Berkeley) for a bioengineering major.
This would be a no-brainer in favor of Cal for any other major. It gets more complected ... UCSD has offered the Regents Scholarship.

Any opinions?

UCSD is ranked higher than UCB in BioE. There are also a lot of BioTech companies in the area around UCSD for possible internship and employment opportunities. And in general, UCSD is highly ranked in many other areas. That, together with Regents, and the location for those to whom it appeals, would make UCSD an attractive option.

Visit both and see what what you think it’d be like to live at the campus and surrounding area for 4 years.

also keep in mind that UCSD’s program is also accredited, while UCB’s is not.

From a purely academic standpoint, i’d go to UCSD.

I’d follow the money.

Go visit UCSD and UC Berkeley. I was in the same boat last year, but after I visited both UCSD and UC Berkeley, I turned down UCSD. I’m pretty happy at Berkeley majoring in BioE right now. Part of the reason I rejected UCSD was because when I visited, the administration for the BioE department was pretty lofty, I suppose is the right word, whereas UC Berkeley’s BioE department administration made me feel like they really cared about me coming to their program and they really wanted to take care of me. It’s just not the same feeling you get at UCSD. That was my take on the situation.

JP this is the first time i am hearing about either program being “accredited”.
Who / what institution does this accreditation?

This is a no brainer for SD. It sits in the biotech capital of the US and world with exceptional ties to industry, research opportunities, internship opportunities and industry financing.
