Biological sciences for eventual med school?

I’m planning to major in biological sciences,
anyone know if it’s a good major with plenty opportunity if I want to eventually apply to med school?

Also, anyone know how UCONN’s biological sciences compare to that of Stony Brook?

Thanks!

I’m a rising sophomore biological sciences major at UConn, and I think it’s just as good as any other major to be pre-med. Everyone, no matter what their major, who is pre-med, meets with a pre-med advisor who makes sure that they include the necessary classes to get into med school. I don’t think any major’s curriculum automatically requires the classes for pre-med, but bio comes pretty close. The required classes are pretty intense, and there are only a few courses for pre-med that aren’t included in bio’s requirements.
As far as getting research experience and whatnot, it doesn’t matter what major you are, you just have to talk to a ton of professors until one wants you in their lab. I know people in all kinds of majors that are pre-med, so you have leeway to change your major if you dislike bio, but I’d recommend it. It leaves a lot of space for elective science classes, so you really get to choose what you focus on, which is definitely good for pre-med if you want to show you’re well-rounded or show that you have experience in the particular field you are interested in.
