Hi guys! For any of you who have experience at Northwestern in either of these two majors, would you please voice your opinions? I am considering a pre-medical track with a major in either Biological Sciences or Cognitive Science, which both strongly interest me. With the knowledge that Northwestern fosters a rather competitive academic environment (esp. for pre-med i hear), I would like to know which major has proven to be more enjoyable/worthwhile/etc. in terms of rigor of classes, research opportunities, etc.?

Thank you so much for your help and time. I would really appreciate any thoughts. :)

CogSci is so much cooler. I’m an engineer, but I know a couple of CogSci people and professors (the professors are really interdisciplinary) and the way it’s described, makes me wanna be a CogSci person.
Besides BiolSci is SOOO common for med schools.

If you are strong in math and science and are up to the rigor, desiring of an interdisciplinary approach, check out the Integrated Science Program. It’s not for the faint of heart. Check out their link, and then see how many (of those who apply) get accepted to med school.

Thanks for your opinions! My first choice major for college was actually neuroscience but for some reason, at the time that I applied, I never really considered Cognitive Science so I was admitted under Biological Sciences. However, afterwards, I was thinking about other potential science-related majors and was starting to consider both. And also do you guys happen to know if I would still be able to change majors even after already having been accepted as Biological Sciences? I apologize if this is an ignorant question but I really don’t know the answer. Thanks!

Really? It sounds pretty cool since it covers many of the disciplines that really interest me.

I actually didn’t apply for ISP but yeah, it seems really cutthroat especially since I’m already doing pre-med. But thanks for the suggestion! :D
