Is this a good major in preparation for medicine or (law and business) if med doesn't work out. Is it a Bachelor's of science or arts??

advice would be helpful????????

Technically, Biology and Society will be my major when I go into Cornell next fall (but I'm going to shift to Biological Sciences). Many biology and society majors are premeds. It is very similar to biological sciences, except it is focused more on the science as it relates to people and to 'society.' (ie more humanities courses ethics courses etc.) I can see it working well for law and buisness. Oh, and I'm pretty sure it is a BS.

so did I, but I called up at Cornell, and the person said its a BA, i was surprised.

oh man, that is so silly...a BA! Yeah, I'm switching to Biological Sciences!

Biology and Society is offered in three of Cornell's colleges, each with a slightly different focus. I don't know which college you are enrolled in, but in CALS you would confer a B.S., Human Ecology - B.S., and Arts & Science- B.A. I'm not very familiar with the major, but it is my understanding that the college you chose to study in depends on the focus that the student choses. The webpage for this major is http://www.sts.cornell.edu/.

What's wrong with a BA, solublefish?

I'm interested in the legal and business side of biology and don't have any interest in doing research for a career, so this might be the perfect major for me. I'm going to look into it, at any rate.

Sorry for the double post, but if you know ANYTHING insightful about B&SOC, please let me know.

Nothing is wrong with a BA, but I want to be a biologist and do research...

i'm going to be a bio&soc major and i want to go to med school too, but i love art history so i can fufill my major with social sciences classes instead of taking them as extra electives. i also heard biological sciences is harder and much more competitive and cut throat, while bio&soc is not so much
