Hi, I am new here and I am very glad that I found this forum.

About me:
BS in chemical engineering from average state school
MS expected in chemical engineering (top 20 program)
Quitting my current program after 3 years (I was in the PhD track) to start a PhD in biomedical sciences.
International but both degrees from US schools.

Applied: Rockefeller, Cornell Weill, Columbia (medical center), NYU (Sackler), Einstein, Mt. Sinai

Interviews: Cornell Weill (Feb 21-23), Einstein (Feb 4)
Rejected: Rockefeller (by mail on Feb 1)

I have interview with Einstein this coming Monday and I am an international student but I live in the US. I applied on Dec 7th but I was missing a letter of recommendation until December 26th or so. They invited me in mid January.

No word from Mt. Sinai (I applied there before Christmas).

I just got an interview call frm UCSD Biological Sci. They ll interview by phone since i am an international student. Wht are these telephonic interviews like? None of my friends hv an interview or anything so I hv no clue abt them (but admittedly, they are apping to chem instead). Like, is it more of why are you applying to our school, or more of me rattling off biochem theory? My stats are somewhere down in this trail..

Columbia's biological sciences is starting to wrap up, the students are already planning for interview weekend activities.

maco0708 -- what department at CUMC did you apply for? most of them have already done round #1 of interviews, with some round #2s being next weekend.

Astrina - I applied to Mechanisms of health and disease at Columbia Medical Center. Since also international students got invited for interviews then I am assuming I am being rejected.

Any international students who already have interviews at NYU Sackler?

i'm sure that this has been asked somewhere else, but i can't seem to find a response anywhere. what's the most polite way to turn down an interview invitation or back out of an interview invitation you've already agreed to? like you, i've agreed to 8 invitations, and i'm starting to realize that it's going to be overkill especially since i know that some schools i'm visiting are much higher up on my list than others.

Macc0708, we had nearly the exact same app list!! (no real point to this post, i just thought it was funny, i applied to all your schools plus Cold spring harbor, SUNY downstate and Stony brook) g'luck!

thecatnymph, I just emailed the schools whose weekends I no longer wanted to attend and said thank you for the invitation, but I will no longer be coming.

I did feel a little guilty about it, but ultimately I felt that it was better for them not to waste money and time on me when I knew I wouldn't be coming to the program.

Don't worry about it Mollie. The schools know that it is part of the process. It's better that you canceled because now they can call someone on the waiting list who may actually want to attend that school. I also turned down one invitation and canceled one interview, so don't worry, you're not the only one.

Well, I'm a second-year graduate student now, so I'm a little past worrying about it in the present tense. :) I just meant that I felt a little rotten about it at the time.

Just got an offer from UCSD pchem program.
Interview at WashU Comp Bio and an interview at Wake Forest Biochem. Still waiting on MIT, UW, Rice, and UCSC

I am an international student and I graduated with first class honors in Biology. I worked as TA in the Biochemistry course for second-year medical students at my university. I have 2 years of lab experience and at the moment I am working in a Johns Hopkins University overseas laboratory in my country. I have one letter of recommendation from a professor who is also one my advisors in the lab, another letter from my other lab advisor and a recommendation from a faculty member from Hopkins who is the chief of the lab. I have one poster, one paper to be submitted (third author) and another one that still on preparation (second author). My GRE score was 440v/ 710q/ 4 aw, my GRE subject score in Biochem/Mol cel Biol/Gen was 490 and my TOEFL(iBT) score was 104.
I am worried about my appplication to Harvard BBS because I have not received an answer regarding the admission yet and I know that many applicants have already been notified. The only email they sent me was for asking me to give them my full name as it appears on my application (....why did they ask me that???.. they were supposed to have my name on my application...) Does anyone know if the notifications have also been sent to international students? Is BBS program still sending notifications to admitted students by this week (there are not interviews, right?). Do they notify by email or by postal mail?

Could you tell me which program of Columbia have you applied and got interview from? I am intl' and I am waiting for the Biological Sciences Dept.
