My interview was over the weekend of Feb 1. Got accepted on Feb 5.
I believe the last interview weekend is this weekend.

Then we've met each other!! Guess my suspicions were correct, but in truth I didn't fall in love with the place, so I guess I'm not crushed.

I got accepted at Albert Einstein College of medicine - biomedical sciences. I interviewed on Feb 4th-5th and they let me know on Feb 11th by e-mail.

I liked the place, I think the research was quite good. Now I will wait for the other schools to make their decisions.

Hey Aldo, I think it's still too early to think that not hearing from CSHL means that you got rejected. After all, Dawn did say that they will be sending out acceptance letters as late as mid March.

What are your other schools?

Accepted @ Einstein, Waitlisted at Mount Sinai
Upcoming interviews: weill cornell and NYU
still haven't heard anything: downstate, stony brook, columbia
rejected: rockefeller

it'd be interesting to be interviewed with another student, haha, wondering how that works

I just read from a forum in my home country that a student received an offer from rockefeller. So admirable to me.

What country is that?

Hi all,

How long do you think it typically takes for a school to accept/reject you after interviewing with them? If they have more interview weekends left, do they usually wait until after they are all finished to issue acceptances or do they usually tell you right away?

Another question:

What does it mean if a school accepts you without an interview or even a phone conversation?? It seems really impersonal and without offering me a visit, it doesn't seem like they're really trying to sell me on the school. Does it mean they have already interviewed a bunch of students, didn't like a few, and ran out of money to interview me so just offered me a spot? I just don't get it.

What school is that? Maybe some schools just don''t have interview/recruitment weekends

I have seen it both ways. Some schools will contact you within a week of the interview if you are in, some schools explicitly say they are going to wait until everyone has interviewed to make final decisions.

Maybe you are just an outstanding applicant in their pool, who knows? I got accepted to one school without an interview even though I know they are interviewing others. They did invite me to come visit on their dime and tried to sell me on their school, but the letter they sent doing so was an offer of acceptance.

Hope that helps!

Awesome! This reminds me of a story I heard from a biomed applicant I met last weekend. Apparently, one biomedical sciences program (Harvard BBS?) sends out letters/phone calls saying that you've been "accepted" provisionally, but strongly suggesting that you attend their recruitment weekend, and only after that will they send an official acceptance. So in a sense, it's really an interview weekend ;)

Some schools (like Rockefeller) don't do interviews, but almost all offer to pay for visits. Maybe you live so far away that paying for your visit is impractical. Maybe you spent time at that campus, or live close by, and the school assumes you're familiar with its program. More likely, your invitation is in the mail.

It's not BBS -- BBS actually does accept without interviews, and the recruitment weekend is really, truly just a recruitment weekend. Everybody's officially accepted through the graduate school and all before coming to recruitment.

It is the UC Davis microbiology program. I do live far away (east coast) so they may be thinking that it would be really expensive to fly me out for an interview, but I have never seen Davis and would really like to. Do you think I should ask for a visit?

Does anybody know something from NYU Sackler regarding international students admissions?

I got an acceptance letter from UC Davis' BMB (biochem & mol bio) program last year but it had an invitation for a recruitment weekend. There were attendees from all over the country, so for that program at least, money wasn't an issue. I don't think it should be either; it cost me $120 to fly roundtrip from within California and I've snagged NYC<--> Sacramento flights for $300 roundtrip.

You should give them a call and ask about their recruitment weekend if you're serious about going, though. Ours spanned two days and we met with 4-5 professors each day ... too bad I knew I wasn't going within 2 hours of setting foot on campus. The remainder of the visit was a lot easier after that!

Heading off to a computational biology interview at Wash U tomorrow anyone have any words of great wisdom. This is my first interview but I am pretty comfortable talking to people, I just hope they don't ask anything too crazy like why are you using particle mesh ewald sums for representing the electrostatic continuum in your simulations...I have been reading up on the research and making a list of questions.

Accepted: UCSD - pchem Wake Forest - BioChem
Waiting: Rice, UW - BioEng
Waiting: UCSC - BioChem
Waiting: MIT - CompBio

So, today I received an e-mail from UCI's MCP program saying they wanted to call me to tell me more about their department and to answer any questions I may have... However, I have yet to be admitted or even asked to interview. So... is this a good sign? It is possibly an acceptance phone call? I'm confused at why they would go through all the trouble of scheduling a phone conversation with me if its just to talk about department stuff that, more often than not, can be found online. Any thoughts?

Anyone headed to Yale tomorrow? There are only 30ish MCGD people going, so maybe I can finally meet some of you!
