Is anyone familiar with the biology/chemistry majors at RPI? I know RPI is very strong for engineering majors and we were wondering about the hard sciences programs. My son visited a liberal arts college that he was considering and he was very disappointed with the lab facilities after seeing the state of the art labs at RPI. How is the workload? How are the professors? We still have concern about the social atmosphere with 75% guys (one big plus for the liberal arts school). I would appreciate others thoughts. Thanks

I had the same exact question, does anyone have an answer?

Does anyone have any experience with these programs?

I would like to know as well...I guess this silence must mean something.

sickofflorida: We went to the Admitted Students Open House and toured both the Chemistry and Biology facilities. They were amazing. We spoke with several students who were involved in research with their professors and everyone was very excited about their work. The students work very hard and there are a lot of opportunities available to them. They all seemed to be very happy and involved in campus activities. One of the biology students was a sophomore and was already involved on a research team. I asked him about specializing so early in his college career but he told me that he was still taking exploratory courses to get the background. The chemistry student was in a special program so she will get her PhD by the time she is 23 years old. She was extremely excited about her work (hard at work at 9:30 on a Saturday morning). My son was very impressed with what he saw and what he heard from the students. Rensselaer had been his second choice for much of the past year and it rose to his first choice after the Open House.
