Biology/Computer Science OR Computer Science/Biology

If restricted to either majoring/minoring in a given combination of study, under such circumstances would you major in biology and minor in computer science or major in computer science and minor in biology?

Considerations MIGHT include job outlook, career opportunities, and/or total competition in marketplace ...

Computer science generally has better job and career prospects, but can be subject to wild swings due to economic and industry cycles (e.g. very bad in the 2001-2003 tech bubble crash). Biology job and career prospects are not very good in general, due to the huge supply of biology majors graduating every year.

Depends what you want to do. There seems to be a decent demand for doctors, so if the bio degree is to become a doctor, that’s a different story. As for CS though, it’s a great field. The only reason the tech bubble crashed was because the industry was in its infancy and there was too much investment into that sector. Same thing happened with all the other industries (railroad industry, anyone?). I high recommend it. If you look at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Forbes, Money magazine, all their projects place CS at the very top. In fact, I believe 6 top 10 best rated jobs by growth by money magazine were related to CS

One does not need to major in biology to do pre-med, and most aspiring pre-med freshmen do not get into any medical school.

DEF CS Major with Bio Minor! A Bio degree is essentially worthless.
