Hello! I am an incoming freshman with a major in biology at UT (planning to acquire a BSA in Biology with possibly a business certificate).
I recently got my AP scores back and got a 4 on the BC calculus exam with a 4 AB subscore, which would give me enough credit needed for my major. However, is it a good idea to take the credit instead of taking a semester of math at UT if I am interested in going to medical school? Should I go ahead and take a calculus (M408K is the one I am currently signed up for) just as a refresher, or is it a better idea to save myself the time and take another class I am required to take (such as Government…)
I don’t want to be in a situation where I have enough credits for my major but lack the skills/prerequisites I need for medical school, I’m still a little rusty on all the different prerequisites, so I’m sorry if this question is asking too much!
Thank you in advance.
Have you read this?

It looks like you can take Statistics to satisfy medical school math requirements but it may limit which schools you can apply to later (some won’t like that you did not take the calculus class).
My advice to young people is not to close doors until you have to. If by taking the credit, you have now eliminated some medical schools from consideration, do it with your eyes open. Maybe you know the four or five medical schools you want to go to and can look at their websites now and make that decision. Maybe you don’t.
How soon do you have to decide? Can you get on campus, spend a semester talking to advisors and other students and then decide?
@gettingschooled Thank you for the link! I haven’t, my mistake!!!
That is what I’ve been trying to do, so far it seems the safe bet is to just take the class in college.
I currently have a Calc. class scheduled for this semester which starts Aug. 26th, and there is an add/drop period for classes on Aug. 21st. I’m considering dropping the class for now, talking to advisors, and then deciding second semester. Thank you for your help!
