Biology Major

What can one do with that, besides med?

Does it require taking courses in chemistry and physics?

Does it require math as a separate subject, as in Cal, etc?

1) research and all kinds of things...just google biology major or something like that...theres huge lists.
2/3) I love biology, but only the life sciences (esp. ecology, evolution, env. science)...and i can't stand physics and chemistry ....unfortunately for a major in biology most schools require you to take plenty of chem courses, some physics courses, and math courses (calc and stat i think)

1. What can one do with that, besides med?

Anything and everything- marine biology, botany, zoology, microbiology, paleontology, biochemistry, biophysics, genetics, physiology, anatomy, ecology, evolutionary biology, systematics, animal behavior, neuroscience...the list just goes on. The big employers right now are pharmaceutical companies; the government also hires a good many biologists.

2. Does it require taking courses in chemistry and physics?

[/quote]

Not really. A year of general chemistry, a semester or two of organic chem, and a year of physics. High scores on the AP Calc BC and AP Physics C exams can knock out the intro chem and physics requirements.

Usually at least one semester of calculus is required; two semesters are often required. Some colleges may require a statistics class as well.
