Im thinking about majoring in biology, and i want to know the typical classes or is it a rigourous major? is it hard

It's a science major so it's a bit extensive. You need a year of intro bio, intro chem, organic chemistry, math (calculus and/or statistics), and MAYBE intro physics. Then of course are the specific, more advanced courses. You'll have to take at least one course in different subject areas (for example, one in molecular bio, one in ecology, etc). Of course, you'll want to do some research and maybe write a thesis.

Seems quite a lot, but if you like bio, it's probably worth it and fun. I'm gonna be a bio major (havent declared yet).

Good luck.

I don't know your situation but many people come in pre-med and decide to major in a science like chem or bio thinking it will make them extra prepared. The issue is that they end up having to do the pre-reqs and then the hard science major requirements which ends up hurting their GPAs overall.

So I don't know what your situation is, if you want to be a biologist and go on to get graduate degrees in bio then sure, major in Bio. But if you're pre-med don't do it. The worst part about pre-med bio is that if your GPA ends up not being high enough for med-school your career options end up being pretty limited because most science jobs are going to want people who've done a lot of research or have grad degrees.

Would a pre-med student also face the problem if they decided to major in Bio-chemistry instead of Biology? I was actually thinking pharmacology because it seemed interesting but I will be transfering to a better college after first semester in which they don't have the pharmacology major. I knew I didn't want to major in Biology but Bio-chem seemed intersting although it's a bit of both. I will attempt the pre-med track but have not decided on a major yet. Heck I think the best thing might be to major in Philosophy and then apply to med school.
